We’re reposting this from our friends over at @nugonutrition because we think it’s another great reason to choose PA made Nugo nutrition bars. We are excited to announce our April Charity of the Month is the Share Food Program. Share Food Program is on the front lines in the regional fight against hunger. Share work in partnership with 500 volunteer-led food pantries in the Philadelphia area., and each month serves 700,000 low-income individuals. Half of these are children or elderly. More families are facing food poverty (Share’s food cupboard partners have seen a 42% increase in the last 5 years) and Share works to ensure that food pantries do not have food shortages, so that no family is turned away. Support of Share helps them purchase healthy food for low-income families, and with the costs of storing, and transporting millions of pounds of food. Every donation makes an impact, and helps Share fight hunger. To learn more, volunteer, or donate, visit the Share Food Program website.

Chef Ed Brown of @restaurant_associates shares his tips for reducing food waste. What are your strategies?
I seriously love this little fold up bag. Thank you @billy_penn!
We recently read that 1.4 million bananas are wasted everyday. Some of these are tossed because they’re overly spotted but a ton of them are wasted simply because they never get chosen at the grocery store. People grab a bunch, tear off what they want and leave the others. It’s rare that someone comes along and grabs the singles. So next time you’re at the store, grab some singles. And if you get an overripe banana, don’t let it become one of the 1.4 million wasted each day. Instead peel it, freeze it and use it in a smoothie or banana bread.
Our friends over @highpointcafe have some delicious #snowday❄️ deals going on right now! 😍 Fun fact: High Point also offers catering and features our tasty @onepotatosnacks chips with their meals. Give them a try for your next event and support local businesses.

According to research, Americans waste 20 percent of vegetables and 15 percent of fruits inside and outside the home, more than past generations. Storing produce wisely saves money, reduces waste and allows more to be provided to the hungry.
Happy National Potato Chip Day! What’s your favorite flavor?

It’s National Nutrition Month and this year’s theme is “Go Further With Food,” a discussion on the importance of reducing food loss and waste. Shopping local, especially from Farmers Markets, is an affordable way to add healthy foods to your diet while conserving energy. Plus local foods usually taste better because they are naturally ripened. What are your favorite spots to shop local?
