We are so excited for Beth today! She starts her brand new job today. She came to us on Sunday and told us she got the job she had been interviewing for. She had to start today which is really fast and she needed a whole uniform. Specific items she just didn’t have or couldn’t get in time. We all got together and by Monday night we had everything! Rob had an interview as well so he was set up for that. So thankful for this community and how we all come together to help our friends. We can’t wait to hear all about it!
#Repost @bumcsm Our hands (and feet and faces) may have been freezing❄️, but our hearts were WARM 🔥Was an honor to serve our neighbors alongside @showerupnashville last night! More outreach opportunities coming SOON!
You see lines like this and wonder if you will have enough. Our friends trying to layer themselves, to make it through the cold winter night. Most tried to get into an emergency shelter if they could. But if not they needed blankets. We passed out every blanket we brought, every hat, scarves, hand warmers and extra gloves. We gave showers and bundled everyone up. And you know what? We had enough! So thankful for this community and your donations. We want you to know they are so appreciated. Together we are all showering grace, hope and love.
We will be out tonight at the War Memorial from 5:45-8. We need a volunteer to run the shower list, 3 people to clean showers and those t pass our shower kits. Would love to have you!
Met Julie for the first time today. Her and her husband are new to the streets. They arrived from Memphis. She came to us because she wanted a shower, and some warm gear. She was cold and had nothing. But she still smiled. She loved the blanket pullover, and quickly found a matching hat. Said it was just what she needed and was so delighted it was purple her favorite color. We love that for the first time in a bit she felt comfy and cozy.
Brrrr it was cold at the overflow shelter we were at tonight. It was a men’s shelter where they received a hot meal, a place to relax and watch tv. And of course a shower!!! This is James. He was absolutely thrilled to be finally getting a shower. He went in and then popped his head out and asked “what’s my time limit”? We laughed and said you get as long as you need! We don’t time our friends when showering. We want them to feel at home. A time for themselves.
Our volunteers are amazing! They keep everything going and inspire us with their incredible hearts! Tonight we will be training Team Leaders who are serving men trying to stay warm and safe for the night. Their church doesn’t have showers so they will get the easy training to set up a ShowerUp mobile shower unit to be able to give these men personal care and love on them. If you would like to find out how you can volunteer or become a team leader, for 2019, please sign up on our Volunteer list on our website.
We LOVE that our food pantry is stocked. When we receive a call or message that someone is hungry we can pack a bag right up. We have delivered to tents, to people who shower with us, and to our friends that live in their cars. It’s amazing what a bag of food can do for someone. Thank you for helping us shower love. By contributing YOU have created smiles.
We always love our volunteers. We like to say you can join us right where you are. We meet so many special people. This lady was wonderful. She asked after Christmas if she can donate boxes of Axe body wash and spray. We didn’t mind at all as our friends downtown LOVE that kind of stuff. Upon talking to her further and back and forth, come to find out she was a single mother of two. And she wanted to use the Christmas money that was given to her to help others. We felt awful after learning the story (we didn’t want to take her money) ..but you know what she was so happy!!! She wanted to and was excited. She couldn’t come down and volunteer time wise but she wanted to do what she could. And as you see Patrick loved it and it was all gone in a blink of an eye. Our city is full of AMAZING people and we want to thank you for the love that you shower. We couldn’t do this adventure alone and it’s friends like YOU that helps put smiles on faces.
