Y’all!!!! Meet Kent the cocoa master. Kent is a total doll! Kent came all the way down to serve hot chocolate to our friends. He also spent his OWN money!! At first he wasn’t sure but at the end of the night, he asked his mother if he could come back again and again. This right here, a sweet boy who was being taught a serving lesson, but he fell in LOVE! We can’t handle the cuteness! He can come anytime!
This morning I wanted you to meet Steven. I sat with him last night catching up and seeing what he needed. Steven has been on the streets for 4 years. He had a drug habit but he’s been sober for a bit and feels fantastic. Steven grew up with his mom in the hood (as he puts it). He said his mom tried, but living around it he just did what others did. Which was drugs. He couldn’t go a day without using them and in part he said it was survival, an escape. He became addicted and couldn’t climb out. Then his mom died of cancer. That shook him and he went in and out of rehab. NOW he is clean and he just got his ID for a job. He is waiting on his SS card and then he is getting a job at Waffle House because two things.... he loves to cook and he LOVES waffles!! When I asked him what he wanted everyone to know about him he said....I AM homeless, I sleep beside a bench BUT I AM a good person. I am.
What a great night we had! We had a group of students (the cheetah council) and their families come from Spring Hill. We loved having them partner with us. They brought water, snacks and some warm hats and gloves to hand out to the little ones we see. What a blessing these children were. #kidup
It’s Monday!! We will be back out tonight at the War Memorial 5:45-8:00. We have showers, hats, gloves and scarves! We will also be serving hot coffee while our friends wait for their shower. Tonight also @peoplelovingnashville will be serving a hot Thanksgiving meal, something we know will taste delightful! Our favorite barbers @nashvillestreetbarbers will be cutting hair, so all we need is YOU! Come join us and find out why we LOVE our community so much!
Oh my goodness!!! We had @shenanigoatsyoga out today and it was awesome!! We loved them as much as our homeless friends. What a great great Sunday under the bridge!
Look what we picked up! Huge shout out to @tesorobuildersllc for donating backpacks full of warm gear, food and more. What a huge blessing they are!
We wanted to thank our new partners. They read we were figuring out how to do coffee on those cold, cold nights. Next thing we knew, they had figured it out for us. The GFWC Spring Station Women’s purchased a 5 gallon cambro! @honestroasters is donating the coffee for it and @whitsfranklintn is brewing it and bringing it down!!! We are beyond thrilled to have this for our homeless friends. We are so grateful for our community and LOVE ours so much!
We met Leroy for the very first time this week. He told us he is from Virginia. He hasn’t been here to long, he is on the way to Florida for a job. He had heard he could get some items and he did. He wanted to talk, but not only that he wanted to listen. He wanted to know what we were about and if he could help at all. He mentioned several times he liked community, to engage. You can learn a lot about someone he said by talking and by actually listening. We thought about that and it’s so true. Our friends have a voice just like we do and they want to be heard, but they also want to know what’s going on in our lives. A conversation means so much to so many. We may never see Leroy again, but we won’t forget him.
Do you have non perishable food you would like to donate? Last week I had a mother walk up to us while showering and ask for food for her children. She said they were so hungry. I went to my car and pulled out one bag that I had left and gave it to her. She hugged me tight and I walked away before she could see me cry. She didn’t ask for herself but for her children. They sat right there and ate it. Then I found out about the people who were living in their car. What We would like to do is carry bags of non perishable food in our car for cases like this. You can bag up in a plastic bag, a gallon size baggie, anything we can pass out. I need your help for this! If your community group would like to make up #sackitiup please message me. #sackitup will be used for emergencies only but our hearts can’t handle hungry. Thank you and as ALWAYS we 💜 our community.
