Right from the start I was clear that I wanted a cover that had no picture. Not everyone likes the same images and I wanted this book to appeal to everyone. It was always my dream to produce a coffee table book that fits in with any interior, which is why my colour scheme is pale pink, dark grey and gold. It’s my favourite colour combo; it goes with everything, and was also an homage to the tall brass palm tree lamp in the corner of my sitting room (from @rockettstgeorge). It’s on sale now and I want to thank all the team @pavilionbooks for their support and realisation of my book dreams.
💭 Long, lazy weekend baths - perhaps with a glass of wine? (Definitely with wine)... I have always loved the look of a room with a bath in - as opposed to a bathroom. When we saw this room with the fireplace we knew it would be perfect for a freestanding tub. It also has a view out over the trees behind... 🛀🍷
This kitchen has been painted many times (always in shades of grey, white and black) but one thing that will never change is the layout. I planned it down to what would go on every last shelf and in every cupboard. When planning a kitchen you must first understand who you are and how you cook. Be honest – if you use the oven for shoe storage then don’t be seduced by an expensive range cooker! If you’re always in the kitchen at parties then a breakfast bar or island with stools is a good idea. Design the space for a better version of who you are, not who you want to be.
This is my deep, dark moody bathroom and I ❤️ it! The white ceiling, floor and sanitary-ware stop it from being too dark. Two basins are apparently the secret to a happy marriage (it’s been 22 years) and they sit on a piece of reclaimed laboratory worktop from @retrouvius. The big gold mirror was rescued from a friend’s rubbish pile and the room was finished off with lots of plants.
Hi! I'm Kate, from @mad_about_the_house #Interiors #Blog and I’m very excited to be doing my first ever Instagram takeover today. Let’s go on a little tour and I’ll talk you through some tips and tricks I use in my home which I hope you’ll find inspiring... . My sitting room follows one of my most important mantras: Something new, something old, something black and something gold. Old brings character, black brings drama (even if it’s just a few photograph frames) and something metallic to bounce the light around and bring a sense of luxe.
