🍁 Winter is coming 🍁
My mom got us a pair of wine glasses for Christmas years ago. One broke shortly after, but I’ve loved that one glass that survived (the bigger glass in the middle). When I was in Value Village recently I spotted a few of the same glasses. A woman walked by and said, “Those aren’t crystal. I’ll show you nicer ones …“. She was trying to help, but I felt embarrassed for wanting the less-than-fancy glasses. Later I of course wished I bought them, so now every time I see that style of glasses, I buy them. As is evident by my tiny mismatched collection. I mean, if they're good enough for Emily Gilmore ... 🍷Moral of the story: 👏🏻 COLLECT 👏🏻 WHATEVER 👏🏻 YOU WANT 👏🏻 #LowerTownApartment #DarkRomanticLuxe
A spare chair from our basement is a perfect little autumn pumpkin nook in our living room (and a sneaky #NoNewvember addition to our living room!). #LowerTownApartment
I am very excited today to share a challenge I've been thinking about creating for a long time - the #NoNewvember Challenge! For the month of November I have created a challenge to try and source secondhand pieces for your home, yourself or someone else instead of buying brand new stuff. Will you take the #NoNewvember Challenge and instead of buying a brand new item this month, try and source it secondhand? Share your finds this month using the hashtag and I'll be sharing my favourites along the way! Way more details and encouragement on my blog today at www.theinteriordiyer.com. Secondhand FTW!
Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper? Handmade costume I sewed, crocheted and braided until almost 01:00 this morning 💕 Totally worth it. #CommanderCora
The past few weeks have been fun-busy at home and crazy-busy at work. I'm getting back to a more regular schedule and just in time to share a project tomorrow that I am VERY EXCITED about. I've had this idea for years and am finally organizing myself to actually do something about it. In the mean time, happy Halloween! And stay tuned for Cora's Halloween costume which I'll be sharing soon. I am SO PROUD OF IT.
It's snowing, so I'm going to assume it's safe to take the air conditioning unit out of the dining room window? If there's a heatwave next week, it's my fault 🙋🏻♀️ #LowerTownApartment #WinterIsComing
Fairy tale pumpkins, where have you been all my life? #LowerTownApartment
Yesterday our little pumpkin turned two years old 💕 At two years old Cora is dangerously smart, hilarious and so much fun. She understands so much, can string together a 10-word-long sentence and even told her first knock-knock joke last week (Knock, knock ... Oh hello, joke! Bye, joke!). Absolutely nothing escapes her and she will call you out in a moment. Just like her namesake, 'Cora' is the bringer of harvests and life but also the goddess of the underworld, as is evident by the clear arrival of the terrible two's. She is strong willed but instead of fighting it, I'm looking at it as a sign that she knows what she does (and DOES NOT) want. She is strong and so, so caring and thoughtful, gentle and sweet. #CoraCarberry
#TBT to six years ago today to our honeymoon in St. Petersburg, Russia. It was autumny and romantic and amazing and scary; just how I like it. Oчень красивый 💕
In case your Monday needed a bit of Cora blowing her nose and then going over to our Bill Murray print and asking him to blow his nose. Blow, Bill ... Good job!. #CoraCarberry
Ottawa was covered in the loveliest fog on Thursday. Lots of foggy photos on my stories today 🌫️
If you found me thanks to @fusionmineralpaint sharing my repainted leather chair project last week, hello! 👋🏻 I'm Alex and one of my favourite things is turning unlikely secondhand finds into much less ugly things. I'm really passionate about buying nearly-new, so much so that I'd say about 80% of our #LowerTownApartment is secondhand and I'm even working on a little something to celebrate all things thrifted. More on that coming soon! #SecondhandFirst #DarkRomanticLuxe
🥧There was a 400lbs pumpkin outside my office this morning 🥧
It's hard to believe that one year ago today we emigrated from Dublin to Ottawa. It's been a tough year, but we've achieved so much in those 12 months. While we miss our friends and family more than ever, I'm very proud of what we've done on our own. I shared a post on all the unglamorous realities behind our move on my blog this week. Featured is a picture I took of @maserart's piece on Richmond Street South in Dublin. I put it in my diary the morning we left.
Last winter I saw #MathieuValade's Myth et Évidence unicorn installation along the Ottawa River in Gatineau, but wasn't able to take a photo of it. For months I thought about going back to take a proper picture but after doing a Google today, I found out it was only in place until June. It was so good and I'm kicking myself for not going sooner. I blame this year's humidity. 📷: @sebdavide
If you grew up in Canada in the 80's or 90's (or let's face it, the 00's or 10's), then you will understand my excitement. That's me between Sharon and Bram, trying my best to majesticly tame an over-excited toddler and failing hard. Childhood = made 🐘💕
Thank you to everyone who messaged us after hearing of the tornado in Ottawa last night. I feel pretty selfish saying we're okay! when there are people without homes this morning. We were warned of a strong storm ahead of time so Robert left work early, collected Cora and got home just as the tornado warning was issued. There are few things that will make me ugly-cry like a toddler and one of them is when a tornado warning is broadcast to my phone (if you've never heard it, you can hear the (terrifying) alarm on alertready.ca). Cora was oblivious to what happened since she was watching Paw Patrol the whole time. Green means go! ... into the basement. #LowerTownApartment
