At long last I narrowed down Cora's bedroom design to two options. Swipe to see the dark vs. light details, and head to my blog today to see both designs in full! I even shared a few SketchUp videos. Because there is no end to what a mother can achieve when their child is asleep. So which design do you prefer? I'm already leaning towards one in particular, but I'm curious to see how many people will threaten to call child services at the mere thought of a little girls bedroom being painted black. #LowerTownApartment
You guys, I lost Cora. #CoraCarberry
Does anyone else suffer from vacant frame syndrome? In our Dublin apartment I was TERRIBLE. We lived there for 8 years I don't think I had a single picture of a person anywhere. Not even a photo from our wedding. And it's not like we didn't have frames! We had so many. I make no sense. I'm hoping that by leaving the empty frames I keep buying around our apartment I'll guilt myself into getting some damn photos printed. #LowerTownApartment
There are Irish-levels of rain happening here today and it's so warm that almost all the snow is gone, but we're having Mexican for dinner so we're all looking forward to that happening to our faces 🌮 #CoraCarberry
After a lot of hard work, I'm very excited to share The Interior DIYer's new look! Basically, it makes the old version of my blog look like a dump truck full of flaming diapers. You can click the link in my profile to see my new design AND there's even a proper mobile and tablet version available ... Watch out! 2015, here I come!
I don't usually make new years resolutions but this year I have one. I'm resolving to spend less *mindless* time on my phone. When Cora was a newborn I was alone with her for 12 hours a day and my phone was my only connection to the outside world. And my only connection to sanity at times. But now, Cora's older and SO tuned in to everything we do it's scary. I don't like her seeing me on my phone and I don't like how quickly I pick up my phone without thinking or realising. I don't know about you but being on my phone too much makes me feel like shit, so hello 2018, we'd like to feel less shit 🙋️ p.s. If you could hear this photo, it would sound like a screaming toddler. Nothing you see online is perfect.
I don't know what to think of 2017 to be honest! And I don't know if many people will be saying that. I spent so much of it in either autopilot or emotionally detached (in I guess a form of self-preservation). It was really good at times and also really bad, but we're settling into our new version of good. It's been tough but exciting and the most adult I've ever felt (even though I'm still winging it. Does anyone ever actually feel like an adult?). I'm excited to see what happens next and what the upcoming year has in store. And what ridiculous things Cora will get up to / discover / put on her head /drop / climb / say / learn / do 💕
Hands up if you had clementines for breakfast in a desperate attempt to make up for the trash you ate over the past few days, only to fall off the healthy wagon by lunch time. #IsChocolateAVegetable
From me and mine (especially Cora) to you and yours, Merry Christmas 🌲
Who else likes to sprinkle their conscious with unobtainble amounts of pressure? Despite having moved half way around the world less than 3 months ago, I still built up an idea of Christmas in my head and proceeded to feel awful for not making any of the projects I wanted. To make up for it I shared a roundup of my past favourite Christmas projects on my blog today. They're easy and most are edible and 25% of them involve alcohol so that's a plus, right? Pictured is my knock-off Baileys (recipe for both vegan and non-vegan versions) I made for @wherewishescomefrom's blog a few years ago along with my edible ornaments which you can bake and then draw on using an edible marker (yes, that's a thing). Head over to theinteriordiyer.com to see the rest and remember, 'tis the season to put alcohol into hot drinks at like 11:00 in the morning ☕️
I shared details about our new-to-us baroque style mirror and console table I found secondhand on @kijijicanada on my blog today! It is beyond so much yes in our hallway. I would eat it if I could. #LowerTownApartment
The first time I watched Elf was at my (then little, now adult) cousins house in Mullingar 10+ years ago. I was babysitting and one day while they were in school, I found their copy of Elf and put it on. I was more than halfway through it, giggling like an idiot when my aunt came home early and caught me watching it. It was embarrassing but also not.
Looking to make your own wrapping paper this year? Or do you have a Star Wars fanatic in your family? Then check out the stormtrooper stamp tutorial I did for @WayfairUK a few years ago! You can find a link to it under the 'DIYs' tab on my blog. Time, there still is to make some.
Baby it's cold outside (-33°C today with the wind chill). Our frosty window this morning ❄️
I have a dentists appointment this afternoon and I'm actually looking forward to it because it means I get to sit down for an hour and a half, uninterrupted. #MomLife
Ottawa, you're so charming that I can't even look directly at you sometimes.
Following yesterday's post, I cannot wait for the rest of our stuff to arrive from Ireland. We didn't ship much furniture but of the few larger pieces we decided to bring, our bedside tables were two of those pieces. Despite costing just €8 each secondhand, they're my favourite pieces after updating them with paint from @makeitrustoleum which I used to hand paint a faux marble finish top. I used the leftover paint to freshen up another kitschy secondhand favourite - our love dove lamp. HURRY UP, CONTAINER. THANK YOU I'D LIKE MY BAR CART SOON TOO PLEASE AND MY CREEPY CAT TEAPOT COLLECTION THANKS.
I wrote a post today about the practical (and not-so-practical) design things I packed in my suitcase and brought with me when we moved from Ireland to Canada. From vases and hammers, to Christmas cards and allen keys. More on theinteriordiyer.com for anyone who may be making a similar move and are thinking of packing less conventional things, or check it out if you're just curious to see what I prioritised.
