How’s everyone’s 2018 going? I’ve been kicking butt 💪🏻 adding runs into my weekly routine again, and spending more time outside. I just booked a trip to New Orleans ✈️ the other day for next month (yay!!!), and today is Day 8 of doing Whole30 and I feel great. Here’s to keeping up the momentum! 🤗 Oh yeah, and this photo is of my lovely sister after our hike through Point Lobos in Carmel. Love days like those!
We drove to Big Sur to end 2017, my sister and I. The morning began with a semi-challenging six-mile coastal view hike, and by the end of the day we were here at Point Lobos getting ready to watch the sunset. Despite the afternoon fog, everywhere we went that day was beautiful. If you plan a trip through California, do the Highway 1 coastal drive and stop through Monterey, Point Lobos in Carmel, and Big Sur. Cameras are a must. Where was your last coastal sunset at?
In 2017 I spent my first Thanksgiving alone. (And got food poisoning, but let’s not talk about that.) In Porto, Portugal, I traversed through tiny streets, hilly walkways, and up and down cliffs along the river. I drank 🍷 at the port cellars and watched the sunset over the city. You couldn’t walk by those gorgeous blue and white titles, or azulejos, on the city buildings without taking a dozen photos. My advice: Go to Porto. Enjoy it on your own or with some friends or your partner. It’s such a wonderful city. But don’t go on a holiday when you’ll likely miss your loved ones and have to FaceTime them at 11pm from your chilly AirBNB. Also, don’t order fish that’s cooked in cream and potatoes 😉 Just my two sense.
Happy New Year! 🎉 🎉 🎉 Here in California we’ve still got five hours to go until 2018 and am waiting patiently for the champagne! This Eve I’m spending a cozy night at home with my two best friends since grade school. It’s an introvert’s dream! 😆 🎉😜 Oh, and what are you seeing in this photo is MARZIPAN. Pure candy. Isn’t it beautiful? You can find this and so much more awesome food at La Boqueria, the famous market off of La Rambla in Barcelona. So... how are you ringing in the New Year? Do you like to stay at home like me, or go out and par-tay? 😜
My favorite part of Barcelona was hands down seeing the Antoni Gaudi architecture. This is one of his earlier works built between 1906-1912. I love the modern, curvy detail. Swoon!
Hello, fellow ‘Grammers and travel friends! You may have noticed a lack of photos on my feed for quite some time. Hopefully you’ve been able to catch some of my IG Stories because I stay fairly active there. OK, I’m about to get vulnerable for a second. The reason I stopped posting photos on my feed was because of a dissatisfaction with my photo quality and feeling intimidated by the much better IG feeds. There are SO MANY other travel accounts that use professional cameras and editing software and many of their subjects are gorgeous twenty-something year olds, and I’m over here super old (j/k I’m only 31) with an iPhone 6s 📱, the SnapSeed app, and definitely not trying to be a model. 🙄 But now with the new year coming, I’ve decided “so what?” We all start somewhere. 😎 By February next year I plan to have a real camera and start learning Light Room editing. Until then, Melissa’s back on her feed either way! I hope you enjoy the coming pics, and have a Happy New Year✌️
Thinking about going to Machu Picchu? ⛰Yes, it’s breath taking (in more than one way), but it also might not be exactly what you’d expect. Curious how it all stacks up? Read my latest post on “What You Should Know Before You Visit Machu Picchu” for some tips. Link in bio! 🤓
