Last night’s yogurt-marinated grilled chicken (a favorite @foodandwine recipe of mine) became today’s killer pita 🥙 for lunch (with spicy tzatziki). Last night’s dinner was brutto ma buono: the chicken and grilled zucchini that I sliced and mixed with feta, mint, green olives, dressed in a spicy vinaigrette of harissa, fennel seeds, lemon, garlic, and some feta spice mix I bought in Athens. I am loving my current existence of grilling and chilling. 😎
If you STILL haven’t made it over to @besharamsf, you really need to prioritize it on your dining hit-list since chef @besharamheena has reclaimed the restaurant as the sole owner and just relaunched the menu to really highlight traditional Gujarati dishes. The menu is full of bright and bold dishes, including the dahi wada (and kanji wada) dumplings, which are a must. You’ve never had saag paneer like hers, or potatoes in a dry garlic chutney, and even her arugula salad with tamarind-ginger dressing is revelatory. Stand by for a price-fixe, family-style menu launching very soon, and weekend brunch has all kinds of special dishes (like pav bhaji and egg roti!). There’s an awesome lunch too! Add in some new, creative, culinary cocktails (with pani puri water and curry leaves), a thoughtful and unique wine list (including a killer Hungarian white, Härslevelü from Tinon), and I have to ask: what on earth are you waiting for?
Drive-by photo when I was in San Jose last month. Makes me miss the OJ’s on Taylor, where it all started in 1937.
First Tahoe sunmer supper: burst cherry tomato 🍅 sauce (tomatoes from Ikeda’s) following the @delfinarestaurant method (finish the spaghetti the last few minutes in the pan with the sauce plus some pasta water so it absorbs into the pasta). 💫 Garlic, evoo, peperoncino 🌶, anchovy paste, basil, tiny bit of butter at the end, Parm. So sticky-sweet. Summertime magic.🍝🔮✨
Sometimes you just want a cozy spot where you can catch up with a dear friend whom you’ve known since college (oh, the stories with this one!), where you can snack on some creative, seasonal (and affordable!) tapas, taste some sherries and vermouths and Spanish wines and a killer vermouth martini (with frozen olive brine and burnt thyme!), with friendly folks and good music. Pay a visit to @elloposf on Polk. It would be perfect for a first “getting to know you” date. They also have theme nights, which can be a little more rowdy, but are also fun, so check the calendar. You can even order some of the wines by the porrón! 😄🚿 Salud!
Ice cream🍦BEFORE our evening beach walk. First time visiting this shop in person after eating Marco Polo’s ice cream for many years. Scoop of strawberry and mangosteen. Coming back for soursop and their arcobaleno! Thanks for treating, my precious beach buddy forever, @john_nieto! 👫🌅
There are many jewels at @nari_sf, the tropical 70s upscale Thai restaurant that just opened from @chezpim of @kinkhao (and Nahm in BKK). Read today’s post on tablehopper.com for more on the flavorful and fantastic dishes (Oh, the snacks! The 🔥 sweetbreads!) at this beautiful restaurant, plus menus and an insider tip 🤫 on a few dishes you can’t find on the main menu. Also: that Kinnari cocktail 🍸 is fab.✨
Thanks for taking Sunday off at @outsidelands, @karlthefog. You deserved a break—Friday and Saturday were big nights for you. Or was that from Grass Lands? ☁️💨
Gotta say, @toroymoi was perfect for Sunday evening...smooth sunset party vibes. And it’s no wonder I love this song, Freelance, off his latest album.✌️✨
“The Boxer” with @paulsimonofficial and @bobweir. One heck of a duet for @outsidelands. 💖🙏🎵✨
