We are still reeling from all the love we got for #JourneysBySAPAN at the INTERSECTIONS Festival at @atlaspacdc last weekend - thank you to the constant support from our friends and family (and from the amazing audience!) π€ hereβs to continuing the conversations about the sometimes difficult topics presented in our show; whether itβs assimilating to a new culture, navigating family expectations, or adjusting our habits to fit into different settings, we hope youβre all inspired to continue thinking about these themes as they relate to your lives

Last but certainly not least we have Mayhah, our Production Director and Theater Director! #JourneysBySAPAN would not be possible without Mayhahβs tactful direction! Come see it unfold tomorrow and find her #journeytojourneys below: β β β β β β Q: How have the arts helped you connect to your South Asian identity? β β β β β β Mayhah: Indian music, dance, and art have been my primary connection to my cultural identity. These arts are how I learned the language, understood religious and social ideas, and explored my own family's journey within India that brought them to the US. As someone with a hyphenated identity, I struggled with being Indian enough and American enough. Training in Indian and Western performing arts has helped me forge an identity that feels authentic and imbued with elements of these two cultures. β β β β β β βββββββββββββββββββββ β β β β β β Come watch Mayhah and the rest of the SAPAN Performing Arts Company at #JourneysBySAPAN, a SAPAN original production exploring a series of South Asian American experiences through music, dance and theater. β β β β β β π: Sunday, Feb 23rd β β β±: 2:30pm β β π: @atlaspacdc β β π: link in bio!

Tomorrow is show day but today we feature our #Journeys dad Chirag! Find his #journeytojourneys below: β β β β β β Q: What made you decide to continue performing? Chirag: I will always chase that sense of unbridled expression and shared experience that comes with performing to an audience that I felt as a five-year-old dancing for my family and friends. β β β β β β βββββββββββββββββββββ β β β β β β Come watch Chirag and the rest of the SAPAN Performing Arts Company at #JourneysBySAPAN, a SAPAN original production exploring a series of South Asian American experiences through music, dance and theater. β β β β β β π: Sunday, Feb 23rd β β β±: 2:30pm β β π: @atlaspacdc β β π: link in bio!

Next up we have our Marketing Director and other Co-Programming Director Ranita! Ranita is a part of our dance branch ππ½ catch her acting debut this Sunday at #JourneysBySAPAN - find her #journeytojourneys below: β β β β β β Q: How have the arts helped you connect to your South Asian identity? Ranita: Dance has been a big part of my life since I was in middle school and I knew it was something Iβd want to continue post college. Through dance I have been able to meet some of my closest friends who relate to me being a South Asian growing up in America. From conservative values to being more well versed in Bollywood than BeyoncΓ©, having friends who were also South Asian American really helped me grow and appreciate the uniqueness of having a dual cultural identity. Journeys in particular holds a special place in my heart, since all of us SAPAN artists were able to explore these personal experiences through the arts and we hope that the audience, no matter what your background, is able to relate to pieces of these stories too! β β β β β β βββββββββββββββββββββ β β β β β β Come watch Ranita and the rest of the SAPAN Performing Arts Company at #JourneysBySAPAN, a SAPAN original production exploring a series of South Asian American experiences through music, dance and theater. β β β β β β π: Sunday, Feb 23rd β β β±: 2:30pm β β π: @atlaspacdc β β π: link in bio!
