Last night, the man I call Pastor and one of my closest friends, Ed Newton, joined me on the stage to tackle the difficult and taboo topic of suicide. An overwhelming number of us opened up and sought counsel for the first time after hearing an important Truth: “I am not alone”. Many of us have been attacked by lies for years that we began to believe and got stuck in: That no one cares. That things will never change for us. That the pain can just disappear if we want it to. That there is no point. BUT, We can rejoice in the Truth that He loves us and he has PURPOSE for us all. The enemy doesn’t try to take out useless players—he’s attempting to defeat the warriors, hijacking God’s Greater plan for YOU. So grateful for Jordan Sleed sharing his powerful story of losing his dad to suicide, God’s faithfulness through the heartache and his plea for those who are wrestling with these dark thoughts to please reach out and seek help. We’ve been talking about community the past 6 weeks and we get to put it into practice by loving our friends who are struggling and being honest when we’re struggling too. #notonourwatch SUICIDE HOTLINE: 1(800)273-8255 CBC’s Care & Support: (210) 253-5971
In these past few weeks, God has been teaching me so much about the power of the open table and real community. We all long to be known and loved but far too often settle for being successful and busy. We have been asking ourselves, is there “a better way”? And we think the answer maybe far less complicated than we make it. Open Table. Open Home. Open Life. @cbc.college
LOOK WHAT CAME IN THE MAIL THIS WEEKEND! I’m so proud of my friend, @BRENTACROWE and his brilliant mind. His style is conversational while digging past the surface, exploring the depth of scripture with his imagination and creativity while staying true to the text. Such a fun read imagining how the apostle Paul spent the final hours of his life. #momentstilmidnight
LIFE AROUND A TABLE // Thursday night we talked about our desire to be fully known & fully loved. We are a generation more connected but more isolated than ever 📲 The good news: there is a better way. We were not created to do life alone, but in community. The only way to improve upon something perfect ✝️ is to invite others to share it. God, in perfect relationship with Himself within the Trinity, created us to experience Him and one of the primary ways we do that is through the community He has created us for. Our walk with Jesus is most definitely personal but wasn’t meant to stay private. The invitation is to pull up a seat to the table and share a meal, a conversation, laughter, your burdens, your dreams and ultimately your life with others. We believe there is “A Better Way” and we are willing to fight for it.
A couple of days ago, Jane and I went on a date to our favorite restaurant in San Antonio. We talked about the gender of our baby, what it’s going to be like to be parents, and begged God for grace to show us how to do this thing. We dreamed about what if it’s a girl. Then dreamed about what if it’s a boy. We talked about all the potential adventures with each. We prayed for our child and then opened an envelope revealing the gender of our baby!!!!!!! The reveal had us on the edge of our seats as we leaned in to unfold the piece of paper to see what the doctor had written. Immediately, in a crowded restaurant, surrounded by strangers, we began to weep with joy the moment we saw what was written!! Fast forward: It was so exciting to getting to tell our SA family whether they were going to have a niece or nephew. Here’s to the next big adventure... parenting.

I've been blown away by these two sessions of PURSUIT camp with @lhstudents. I've never seen anything like this team: backstage, onstage, and everywhere in between, they've been incredible. When people talk about the dream team, this is it. It's been sweet to teach through the life of David and have great conversations with students about what God's been stirring in them this week. It's also been great to demolish those same students in paintball. (😉). But sincerely, Jane and I have had the best experience and aren't ready to leave! We love you, Longhollow!
This summer has been a different—and really sweet season of preaching for me. As God has been leading me to teach our people about abiding, He’s been teaching me the same. Even when I want to study and perform and work hard in my own strength, he’s been whispering to me and teaching me to let Him lead. I’m so excited to teach about the pruning part of abiding tonight. It’s the piece a lot of us get afraid of. We don’t quite know what to do with discipline, and most of us haven’t seen it done well, so I’m excited to share the Father’s heart for discipline and pruning tonight. Special guest @philipvega will be in the house tonight and I can’t wait for you guys to experience what we’ve put together for you in worship.
Praying for JD Greear tonight and tomorrow while the SBC votes for their next president. We love and trust this man so much bc of his strong character & his track record in church planting, mission and leadership. #jd4prez
