This week's junior in the OJGA Weekly Spotlight is Bryce Hatcher! Bryce is 16 years old and plays golf for Tualatin High School. Bryce has been playing golf since the age of eight and he started playing OJGA at the age of eleven. In his spare time he enjoys hanging out with family, friends and spending days on the river. Q: What is one thing you want to accomplish this year? A: One thing I would like to accomplish this year is qualify for the state high school championship as an individual. Q: What is the best piece of golf advice you have received? A: My favorite piece of advice ever giving is have patients. If you have a bad hole, you got a lot more golf to play ahead of you. Q: What is one of your secret talents? A: Another talent I have is I am an avid steelhead and salmon fisherman Good luck this year @bth01 !
Today we are checking in with former OJGer Amanda Elich! Amanda graduated from West Linn High School and has participated in Oregon Jr golf tournaments since she was a pee wee. Amanda decided to go to the University of Houston to study accounting and play golf on their team. Amanda loves the school and the people she has met in the process. . Q: What is one thing that you have learned about yourself through college? . A: College has taught me a lot about myself and especially where I can grow. One of the biggest things I've learned is that it is so important to manage expectation, in golf and in life. You arent always going to have it easy or what you would expect, so learning to adapt and be ok with it not being what you thought is key. It makes everything easier and so much more fun, because those who expect nothing will gain every oppertunity for greatness. . Q: Where is your next college golf tournament? . A: Currently I am playing in Baton Rouge, Louisiana playing in the LSU Tigers Invitational. My next event is in Dallas, Texas for the Bruzzy Challenge. . Q: What is one thing you miss most about Oregon? . A: The biggest thing I miss about Oregon is my family. Playing golf with them and seeing them every day was a luxury that I didnt fully understand until I left for college. But it makes it that much more special when I do see them! . Today we are checking in with former OJGer Ellen Secor! Since graduating from OGA, Ellen has been playing golf at Colorado State University. She is currently a sophomore and studying is business marketing! . Q: What is one thing that you have learned about yourself through college? . A: One thing I’ve learned about myself throughout college is that I love statistic and economic type classes, which I never thought would happen. . Q: Where is your next college golf tournament? . A: My next college tournament is March 23-25 in Tucson, AZ at the Mountain View Intercollegiate . Q: What is one thing you miss most about Oregon? . A: One thing I miss most about Oregon is actually the awesome tree lined courses we have. When we travel we don’t get to play many courses like that on the road since we’re mostly in warmer areas! This week's junior in the OJGA Weekly Spotlight is Jake Pike! . Q: What hobbies do you do besides golf? . A: Besides golf I love to be active (go on walks with my dogs), I love going on long drives, and I love going to the movie theaters. . Q: Who is your favorite golfer and why? . A: My favorite golfer is Phil Mickelson, because he’s really great at improvising his shots on the course. He also has a great history with other tour players and just had a great personality! He’s also a lefty just like me. . Q: What is one thing you are excited for during this high school golf season? . A: During this high school season, it is my senior year so it’s my last. I am trying to play my best and really focus on the game itself. My team is really great with a lot of cool guys playing for my high school. . Good luck this year @jakepike_ !

Today we are checking in with former OJGer Hunter Wescott! Hunter plays golf for Dominican College in New York. Hunter started playing golf at 12 years old and started playing in the OJGA at 13. Ever since graduating from the OJGA, Hunter has been playing a lot of golf tournaments and trying to perfect his game. In college, Hunter’s team ended up winning the regional championship and he ended up making the putt to win by 1 stroke which qualified his team for the national championship. Q: What is one thing that you have learned about yourself through college? A: One thing I learned about myself through college was my ability to get over fear. All it did was hold me back. With help from my coach I was able to get over fear and enjoy myself in the now rather than worry about results or future events. Q: Where is your next college golf tournament? A: My next college event will be the St. Thomas Aquinas Spring Invite at Rum Pointe CC in Maryland Q: What is one thing you miss most about Oregon? A: The thing I miss most in Oregon is my family. You don’t realize how hard it is being away and how much your family does for you untill they aren’t there. Once I get back though I make sure to spend as much time over summer with them before I have to go again. Good luck this year @hunterwescott05 !

Connor was cut from his high school golf team his freshman year but with hard work he made the varsity team his sophomore year. He has been playing for the team ever since. Connor is also a shoe collector! Q: In your opinion, which golf course has the best food? What do you like to order there? A: I think that camas meadows has the best food, I also work there so I can get a discount. I like the chicken strips. Q: What is your favorite golf course to play? Why? A: My favorite golf course to play is probably Pebble creek in Phoenix Arizona. It’s a nice and easy course, and it’s also very warm there Q: What are you planning to do after you graduate high school? A: After high school I’m looking to keep my relationship going strong and also go to college to play golf! Good luck this year @connorshira !
Today we are checking in with former OJGer Madalyn Ardueser! Madalyn has been playing OJG tournaments ever since she was 11 years old, and it shaped her into the competitive golfer she is today. Madalyn is currently a college golfer at Eastern Washington University, and though it is difficult at times, she loves every minute of it. . Q: What do you enjoy the most about playing college golf? . A: I enjoy traveling and spending time with my team. Nothing beats missing class to play some beautiful golf courses all over the west coast (including Hawaii!). . Q: What are your plans for this coming summer? . A: My plans for this summer include spending time with friends and family, playing some golf tournaments and having fun with practice, dirtbike riding, and working on my Jeep. . Q: What is one piece of advice you would give to incoming college freshmen? . A: My piece of advice to an incoming Freshman is to learn to how to manage your time. Things are busy in college, and turning your homework in on time is crucial. If you are a student-athlete like I am, your schedule can get a little chaotic. I cannot stress how important time management is. But also remember, enjoy your time in college! Time will fly by faster than you think. Make friends and memories that will last a lifetime. .
