Granola making paused for bee first aid 🐝 if you have never done this it is amazing! Worn out bees resting on the ground will drink a sugar solution and revive in minutes - happily this little chap had a good drink much to the delight of the children who were fascinated to watch his little tongue (do bees have tongues) lapping in and out as he drank before stretching his wings and flying away!
Oh this weather!! Today we have guests who wanted to go wild swimming and what a glorious day to go - with a huge choice of options from the doorstep, maps and directions provided, they have set off to enjoy a few of our favourite spots! When we first moved to Cider House almost 5 years ago it was a fabulous summer and didn’t rain for 6 weeks from our day of arrival. We were still commuting to our “normal” day jobs and I was very pregnant with Oliver so it was utter bliss to return home, scoop up the dogs and all go swimming in the river. Our daughter Bella loved it - although at that time not a confident swimmer on her own she would love to cling on and swim with us in the gentle flow enjoying the refreshing cool after a hot day! Here’s to another summer like it!
The roses are AMAZING this year my favourite has to be the Dortmund round our kitchen window, it is an absolute stunner and regularly continues to flower through until November! The bees love it too! So with roses on the agenda for this evening but nothing on my feet - a small child carrying a chicken having “borrowed” my shoes to put said chicken to bed- you have a selection of those I could reach without having to tiptoe over too much gravel!
Bertie and Gulliver coming home... When you live where you work and you work for yourself, it is all too easy find your business all encompassing, one of my favourite times of the day is when we walk our spaniel Gulliver (he is an old chap now at 15 and prefers a potter to a gallop) down the valley the evening sun and to just take time out is magical and a wonderful reminder of why we love where we live. The birdsong is abundant, the light beautiful, the warmth of the day still radiates, I never tire of this view whatever the season but it is this glorious time of the day when I love it most! The perfect tonic!

I love this view.... it is the view I always associate with out first visit to Cider House 5 years ago. That first day was in February crisp and cold with a beautiful blue sky and as we watched our daughter run down between the walls with her wild blonde curls we gained a feeling of all we were to fall in love with about Cider House and the Estate; calmness, time, quiet, fun, the outdoors, secret gardens held time, a place which has refused to be touched by the pace of the world today it was magical then and still is today - 5 years ago that view filled us with excitement of what could be.... Today it says “you’re coming home” and whether watching the swallows dive above me as I did this evening, the bats at dusk, the moonlight illuminate the buttresses or the toadflax and pennywort which thrives in the crevices, whether with howling wind and driving rain or glorious sunshine, it reminds me how much we love where we live! #cominghome #lovewhereyoulive #quiet #tranquility #homeagain #ciderhouse #specialplace #familyhome #familybusiness
