5 am. Have to get ready. Lots to do at day break. Pick yourself up off of sleep. Work, errands and a smattering of menial tasks have to get done. The sun, hot and heavy overhead urges you to get things done. A productive day, everything settles into place in the grand machination of living in modern society. Night falls. Rough day, rough traffic, rough weather, getting home seems to be the greatest idea there ever was. You’re tired, but awake. Restless energy coursing through you as you toss and turn in bed, consumed by thoughts that don’t fit the urbane lifestyle. The ceiling stares at you as you stare at it; An ever growing blankness, the disquietude unnerving and unbearable. Late nights are part and parcel to the struggle of production. Accompanying these listless souls is the bright glow of man’s artificial suns, an impetus to gather the frenetic energy of the night.
Come and join us this Sunday as we witness the solo exhibition of Ryan Jara entitled “Reformed”. Cocktail starts at 6pm. See you guys.
John Marin opens his eight solo exhibition this November at Secret Fresh Gallery. Presenting a new set of monochromatic paintings, he explores how indelible imprints of identities remain as individuals pass on their thoughts and ideas through their creative works. Drawing from multiple references to music, film, and popular culture, the works examine the relationship between art, the artist, and the audience—how signatures of personalities radiate from their creations and inspire well beyond their lifetimes and social circles. Titled Without End, the exhibition suggests that no matter how obscure and distant a creative output gets from its origin, the mark of its source neither totally vanishes nor forgotten. A graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Advertising degree from the Technological University of the Philippines, John Marin has been actively exhibiting in solo and group shows in the Philippines, Taiwan, and Singapore. He mainly deals with traditions of spirituality, reflections on existence and the individual’s place in the cosmos, and questions about the self, collective, and identities in his art. His works are mostly known for their monochromatic color scheme —producing dramatic effect at times while in other instances create a mood that invites reflection and contemplation. The exhibition opens on November 3, 6PM at Secret Fresh Gallery, Ronac Art Center, San Juan City. This show is curated by Ruel Caasi, in collaboration with Secret Fresh Gallery X The Working Animals Artprojects.
