“Yoga is not meant to be a religion or a dogma for any culture. While yoga sprang from the soil of India, it is meant as a universal path, a way open to all regardless of their birth and background.” (B.K.S. Iyengar) #happyinternationalyogaday

Missing the @torontoyogaco community! Cannot wait for the shala doors to open again! #standwithowners @telusbusiness
Like many people, I have been trying to stay positive and hopeful by focusing on the silver linings during this uncertain time. However, I realize that being able to focus on slivering linings and not having to worry about basic needs, such as housing or food, is a privilege. Now is a good time to reflect and realize what matters most, not just as individuals but also as a society. I am hopeful when this all ends, we can appreciate living life more and having a community and people around us.
Come and practice with me from the comfort of your home 🏡 through FaceTime or Zoom. Try a fun private class personalized to your or your family’s needs and preferences. We may be physically apart, but I can still support you on your practice journey. Styles offered are Hatha, Hatha Flow, Vinyasa, Yin, Restorative, Budokon Yoga, and Mobility training. DM me for details. #stayhome #homepractice #yoga #yogaathome #yogateacher
From free online classes and activities to people buying groceries for their neighbors, it’s just amazing to see how people are supporting each other during this time of uncertainty. It's the start of a new year and that means new New Year’s resolutions! I am not big on resolutions, because there is so much pressure around them. Perhaps it is better to work with the energy that the new year brings to embrace the things in your life that make you happy and to try something you'd always wanted to try. Trying out something new is always intimidating, but it is also an exciting experience. When it comes to yoga, I understand it’s easy to get intimated and self-conscious when you look at all the flawless photos representing yoga on social media or in ads. Always remember that every yoga practitioner and teacher started as a beginner. So, if you have decided to try your first yoga class, be proud of yourself for coming out of your comfort zone. Mistakes are part of every learning experience. Being aware of common mistakes will take away some of the pressure associated with new experiences and make your first encounter(s) with yoga more enjoyable. Here are 5 common mistakes to avoid: 1.) Not going to beginner classes: Take advantage of classes that are tailored to beginner students. They will help you to develop a strong foundation for your yoga practice at a beginner appropriate pace. 2.) Comparing yourself to others: Yoga is not a competition. Everyone’s body and practice are different, so comparing yourself to your neighbour in class will only distract you from your own practice. Be patient and respect your own learning curve. 3.) Being attached to a specific result: Yoga poses are used to bring awareness to the body and mind, but they are not the ultimate goal of the yoga practice. Enjoy the journey, have fun with the practice, and don’t take yourself too seriously. 4.) Holding your breath: We tend to hold our breath when we are holding a pose, but that will only build up more tension in your body. Learning to breathe in yoga poses will help you cultivate awareness, sink deeper into poses, relax and energize the body and mind. 5.) Only trying one class/style of yoga: There are many different styles of yoga and some may fit your needs better than others. The same applies to the teacher as people have different teaching and learning styles.
Thanks @kinoyoga for another great handstand workshop 🙏🏼! Happy weekend everyone 🕉!

“By being yourself, you put something wonderful in the world that was not there before.” (By Edwin Elliot) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Whether your on or off the mat, honor your own self-expression without judgement or comparison. The yoga practice offers a great tool to practice self-acceptance. And it’s not about being able to do certain yoga poses, but about being present, connecting to yourself, and being you by allowing yourself to be where your are in your practice (which can be different every day). Go shine, do more of more what makes you happy, and be YOU! #beyourself #beyou #selfexpression #selfacceptance #loveyourself #yoga #yogatoronto #yogateacher #torontoyogateacher #yogacanada
