Am I the only one? 😂 I get this question often--as a mom.. do I have to keep track when I grab a handful of goldfish or lick the brownie batter spoon? Here are your options. These are normal habits we all do occasionally, but keep in mind that these *subliminal* sticky finger habits have the potential of adding 300 calories (or more!) into your day.. which can be just enough to make you feel like you're doing everything you can, but not seeing progress. One option is to keep track of your extra bites.. (it all counts toward your final daily intake) and just stay within your budget. The other option is the hardest, yet the easiest as it pertains to keeping track: try to show some self-control and start developing the habit of not grabbing handfuls here and there. The development of this discipline will not only help you make progress toward your goals, but you will be amazed at how you feel EMOTIONALLY accomplished to exercise integrity!! And it saves time.. no licky, no loggy. 👍🏼😂

If my kids see me measuring food, am I sending a message that I am overly obsessed with food and calories? I love getting this question, and I get it often.. here is my answer. My daughter and I love to bake. She knows that baking takes precise measurements of each ingredient if you want your cake to turn out the way it was intended to. If you don't care how it turns out, just throw anything and everything you want into a bowl and see what happens. OR.. follow the directions, the measurements, use the right pan to ensure your cake is built well. But know this.. everyone's cake (and frosting) is going to look a little different. Genetics, features, hair color, eye color.. these are all a part of our glorious uniqueness that should be celebrated. But we are responsible to teach our children, not to OBSESS, but to enjoy eating and CARE about what and how much we eat. Living a life of moderation, balance and enjoying foods is the best way we can demonstrate healthy habits that will hopefully carry over into our kids' lives. (ok, this probably should have been a blog post, but if you made it this far I guess I saved you a trip) 😂
