#Repost @sakura_yagi ・・・ More than expected number of RSVPs for our casual @usjapancouncil get-together led to a makeshift #sake bar in the back of @sakaguraev. ❤️ so much love for my #japaneseamerican family ❤️
Please consider donating to the Japan Flood Friendship Fund (link in bio) and thank you to USJC Associate Robin Lewis for the below update. ・・・ #Repost @robinlewisphotography ・・・ Last month, Japan was hit by the worst floods in 36 years (as well as a serious heat wave). 先月、豪雨の被害を受けた岡山県 #倉敷市 からの写真。 I just returned from Kurashiki City in #Okayama, one of the worst affected areas where many communities were devastated by flooding & landslides. In this one area alone, 1000s of homes have been damaged / destroyed, 100s of people are still displaced (after a month), and its looking like a long path to a full recovery. This past week, I was able to spend some time on the ground with the Peace Boat relief team and an awesome group from @tomodachi_initiative / @usjapancouncil . On the ground, they’re focusing on 3 core areas: 1. Supporting Management of Emergency Shelters. (避難所の運営サポート) 2. Supporting Marginalised Evacuees（在宅避難者・自主避難者支援) 3. Supporting management of disaster volunteer centres ( #災害ボランティア センターの運営サポート) Even though I was only there for a short time, I’m grateful for the chance to connect with both survivors and responders, to understand what happened, how we can support better, and what we can learn. The affected area is really quite large, and general scale of the disaster is serious. Even though I saw with my own eyes how strong and resilient people are, some affected communities may still need support for months/years to come. Please get in touch if you want to partner or support in any way. I’ll probably be back again soon, and will continue supporting remotely in the meantime. Big shout out to the volunteers from #TOMODACHIInitiative and to the team at #PeaceBoat for their tireless work on the ground, as well as all other individuals/groups out their making a difference! #JapanFloods #TOMOalum #disasterrelief #JapanFlood #西日本豪雨災害 #災害支援 #真備町 #Japan🇯🇵
