On September 7, as part of USJC's Regional Women in Leadership series, an event titled Women in Leadership: Breaking Glass Ceilings was held at the Japan Information & Culture in Washington, DC. This event highlighted the accomplishments and challenges of women in leadership. The esteemed panelists discussed personal challenges they face in professions traditionally dominated by men; their experiences in global settings and lessons learned; entrepreneurship, innovation and technology; and how employment trends for the next generation of leaders can strive for an equitable playing field for women. On September 1, the 2017-18 TOMODACHI MetLife Women's Leadership Program successfully kicked off in Naha, Okinawa! 10 mentees and 10 mentors participated in interactive workshops, where they discussed their expectations for the program, professional goals, learned about networking and had the opportunity to build mentee-mentor relationships. Program sessions will also take place in Fukuoka, Tokyo and Osaka in the coming weeks. This ten-month mentorship program pairs highly-motivated Japanese female university students with Japanese female mid-career professionals to encourage networking among a select group of Japanese women who show promise as Japan’s next generation of leaders. @tomodachi_initiative @metlife.co.jp
