“Always” Pow Marin Solo Exhibition Curated by Ryan Francis Reyes Pow Marin mounts his third solo exhibition this June at Secret Fresh Gallery. Drawing from earlier series dealing with nostalgia and personal memories, the works pay tribute to the artist’s late grandmother, transforming bits and pieces of her identity and the life she lived into sumptuous visual compositions of forms, colors, and patterns. Reminiscing his grandma’s love for plants and gardening, the artist composes a delicate and heartfelt elegy to the departed by filling the pictorial plane with floral patterns bursting with warmth and affection. Always in full bloom and vividly coming to life, the flowers keep the treasured memories alive, unchanged by the passage of time. A graduate of Bachelor of Fine Arts major in Advertising from the Technological University of the Philippines, Pow Marin received citations from several art competitions before bagging the Grand Prize of the 2016 Metrobank Art and Design Excellence for Oil/Acrylic category. He has been exhibiting in group shows since 2012 and has mounted two solo shows to date. His works mostly drawn from personal memories and experiences are vivid illustrations of themes such as gender identity and family affairs, with forms animated by fields of colors and sumptuous patterns inspired by underwater biodiversity. The exhibition opens on 23 June 2019 at Secret Fresh Gallery, Ronac Art Center, San Juan City, in cooperation with The Working Animals Art Projects.
