I’m about to get a little honest with y’all. I got engaged at the end of 2013 and started wedding planning in 2014, the first year I officially started my business doing mainly seniors. My moms first priority (as she is a financial counselor) was establishing my budget. She allotted $500 for photography.....y’all that’s it. Want to guess my videography budget? $0. • So trying to follow her budget I started looking, and couldn’t find anyone, that has anything decent in their portfolio. We had an 18 month engagement so about 9 months out I still hadn’t booked a photographer. Thankfully I had a fiancé that appreciates photography and had been going on shooting dates with me since our first date in 2011. He said screw that budget, find someone you love. So I did. We ended up spending over half of the overall wedding budget on photography & videography, and you want to know what. I have zero regrets. Honestly I wish we had spent more! They are all we have left of or wedding day and the last decent photos and family portraits before my Dad died 4 months later. • Do you know what the funny part is now though? My mom has completely changed her tune on wedding photography. She couldn’t imagine people not investing in capturing their memories well. She sees how much I work and the amount of time (and $$$) I spend running my business and tells me that I don’t charge enough. Oh moms. • So moral of this novel of a post? For couples, fight for what YOU want to invest in! If that’s photography, food, invitations, it’s your celebration! For photographers, it’s all about educating those around you! • Photo of me 20 weeks pregnant with Amelia stretching during dinner break at Overlook Barn!
