And here’s how you can get involved!! 1. Sign up to be a Team Captain. Go to @rideforrefuge and select The Joy Smith Foundation as your charity of choice. Everything your team fundraises will help us stop sex trafficking in Canada. 2. Pick an activity. You can do the traditional 5km walk or a 10, 25 or 50 km bike ride. 3. Or you can choose the freestyle option, where the possibilities are endless! Host a video game marathon, knit 100 sweaters, host a chilli cookout or do 2,000 push-ups with your team. Anything goes! 4. Raise funds to end sex trafficking in Canada! Last year we raised $62,000 together. Let’s best our record and support even more survivors. Are you in? Will you ride for refuge? Drop a 🙋🏼♂️🙋🏾♀️ or a 🚴🏼 if you’re on Team JSF!
Traffickers are everywhere. Unfortunately buyers of exploitative, non-consensual sex (rape) are everywhere too. ⠀ ⠀ Whenever we talk about exploitation, we must also address demand. Because if there were not buyers, there would be no victims.
Graduation might look different this year but we want to send our sincere congratulations to all the survivors who are graduating their education programs and recovery programs this year! It has been an honour to know you and to witness your growth! ⠀ ⠀ May your future be as bright and triumphant as you are!
This right here is the tool of choice for traffickers. ⠀ ⠀ Right now we are working with a parent in BC whose daughter is being lured online and groomed by predators. ⠀ ⠀ She's eleven years old. ⠀ ⠀ He got access to her through her online social media apps and is continuing to control her mind through emotional manipulation. ⠀ ⠀ Unfortunately, this is not a one off situation. We deal with this every single day and developed our prevention program that is presented in middle schools and high schools across Canada due to the very fact that this is SO common and happening on every street in every community. ⠀ ⠀ To learn more or request our workshops on presenting sexual exploitation for your school, youth group or community centre, please visit joysmithfoundation.com or email
Ride for Refuge 2020 is here! It goes without saying that we are very excited to partner with Teams and Captains from all across Canada for our largest annual fundraising event of the year. ⠀ ⠀ This year, the ride is going to look at bit different. Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, there are new and creative ways to get involved and raise funds for the most vulnerable among us. ⠀ ⠀ Yo can still select to do the classic 5km walk, or the 10, 25 or 50 km bike ride but now you can also pick your favourite fundraising activity with your friends and do what you can, wherever you can. ⠀ ⠀ For example, you could host a Zumba challenge, plan a video gaming marathon, teach art classes, host a fundraising party, even knit 100 sweaters....all in the name of fundraising for freedom! ⠀ ⠀ To learn more or sign up your team, please visit our website or email
