Hello beautiful. Nice to be back.
For as long as I’ve been actively writing songs, which is coming up on 20 years now, all I’ve ever wanted was to be like Tom Petty. He’s been one of the only constants - someone I can always go back to to find the power of simplicity in words and melody to move people. Whether in my room alone my entire teenage life writing love songs on my acoustic, or making dance music that he would probably hate, Petty has always been THE GUY to aspire to. . His ability to reach everyone without ever sounding pop was singular. Specific yet broad and incredibly relatable, his songs still feel timeless. . I’ve seen him live 7 times. The first transcendent show I ever attended was at age 15 in Mansfield MA. The crowd knew every word. A few years ago I saw him play at the troubadour in LA with mudcrutch and I was blown away at his skill at changing his playing from a stadium to a club. He owned every crowd. . What’s most remarkable about Tom Petty though is how universally accepted he is. Nobody is out there with the “petty actually sucks” take. We all have that cousin or friend w shit taste that loves Petty, and yet you’ll always hear great songwriters praise him. He was EVERYONE’S. . I hope his death causes people to look through his catalog a bit more because his lesser known records are some of his best, especially the records produced by Rick Rubin, which left Petty stripped down and honest in a way he wasn’t before and hasn’t been since. . So many of my firsts in music and life were somehow tied to him. I even danced at my wedding to a song of his (Angel Dream No. 4). I’m really terribly sad today. Petty was the guy who made me believe in the magic of music and the power of songwriting. RIP TP.

West Of The West is 1 year old today! If these songs helped you through something, provided you an escape, or even just soundtracked a special moment, I did my job right. I've had a pretty tough year and the personal connections I've made because of this album have kept me going each and every day. Thanks to everyone who's bought, streamed, and shared this record. Time to focus on the next chapter!
Thank you @lifeisbeautiful, what a vibe! Thank you to my wonderful band and all of the beautiful people that came to watch us play. Hope to be back soon! 📸:@aiycejenn
I've got your New Years Eve plans right here. Very excited to announce I'll be DJing the legendary @prohibitionnye party in Union Station right at home in downtown Los Angeles. Early bird tickets are on sale Friday Nov 3rd!
Missing Croatia and DJing in a jungle dinghy surrounded by some new lifelong friends 😭 Thanks @theyachtweek!
Today I played some music inside a circle raft at @theyachtweek in Croatia and the disco gods smiled down with sunbeams. Dreams come true ⛵️ . #TheYachtWeek2017 #yachtweekcroatia
My song Embrace came out 4 years ago today. It feels simultaneously like yesterday and a lifetime ago. I will never forget playing it on tour that year and hearing people sing my words back at me for the first time. I'm proud to say this song doesn't get old for me. I'm still excited to play it every night and it still gives me the chills when people sing along. Thank you to anyone who's stuck around since they heard this song 💛 . PS if you guys miss the original version with Ariela Jacob's vocals, I've been on a personal mission to get the EP up in its original form again and I'm stoked to say it's on the way. . Much love to all, -Josh
