It's Adoption Awareness Month. Most people who know me are very aware that I have adopted two girls. I don't normally share this kind of stuff on Instagram but it's pretty significant and the biggest part of my life. This is something I have always wanted and I am so grateful. These kids adopted me too. They choose me every day. Children are not always easy but nothing worthwhile is. No parent is perfect but these kids could not be more loved or more fun. They have opened my heart and made me a different person. I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to be their mom. To walk along this life with them. They have worked so hard to overcome some serious trauma. They have lost so much in such a short time and have given me so much over the years. They still hear comments or questions about our family. How we are different. How I'm not their real mom. But we all have to learn how to deal with the ignorance or judgement of others and show our strength. I hope they can grow to be compassionate women who choose to love rather than to judge. To know we are all humans trying to do our best. To not pick eachother apart. And to being joy everywhere. I'm so grateful to @childrensaidnyc It is their work that made me mother. And the people who work there work HARD. They are tireless. They are dedicated to getting these kids to a place they can heal and grow and thrive. I can't thank you enough. Many of you that have loved them since the moment they arrived Many, many people have showed up for them. Many of you have been supporting and loving them and encouraging us. They love you all so much. Our community IS their family and they will never forget you. There are almost half a MILLION children in foster care. We need to get them all out. Every. Single. One.
