💗Happy Valentine’s Day! 💗
Yesterday, I learned how to drive a snowmobile. Well, mostly I learned how to dig one out of waist deep snow. ❄️❄️❄️I joined Johnson County Search and Rescue thinking “I’m super fit, I have lots of helpful outdoor skills and fancy certifications, I have a great attitude and like people.” What I’ve learned is that a lot of the job around here requires brawny grit. I’m lucky to be part of a team that can fill in the brawn and hopefully I’m proving I have the grit. ❄️❄️❄️While yesterday was pretty miserable, at least WY has lots of snow and beautiful, crowd-free areas to play, like this meadow off Bull Creek in the Big Horns.
50+ in the last days of January isn’t very helpful to the snowpack, but we switched gears and went for a hike on one of my favorite loops out of Hunter Corrals. ❄️❄️❄️ Luckily cooler temps and more moisture are on the way.❄️❄️❄️ Days like this are also a reminder to do better to reduce my impact. Our little town does not offer recycling pick up like I was spoiled with in Denver. This year I’m vowing to make a stronger effort to separate and deliver my recyclables to town along with my ongoing focus of reducing single use packaging.
💙❄️🧜♀️🦋🐬🍭⛸💎🌀 Translation: the @icecastles_ in Dillon were magical!
Head in the clouds and the lift to myself. ❄️❄️❄️The Bighorns have been gifted a pretty stellar season from Ullr and I’m making sure to take advantage before heading South for more client meetings and @outdoorretailer.❄️After a quick break to warm my hands, the sun popped out and I was able grab the last few laps I needed to knock out a run on every trail at our little local hill before heading back to the Bunkhouse office.❄️
I woke up with a snotty nose, tired, feeling kinda meh about something I said 100 years ago. ❄️Then I got up, bundled for the cold, rallied my pup and was greeted with this rainbow stretching across one of the horse pastures while snow fell and the sun rose. ❄️ My hands went numb while taking pictures, but it was immeasurably better than staying sick in bed. 🐴🐶🌈🦄
Sweet dreams, Evergreen! ❤️ Quick client trips feel like luxurious getaways thanks to fireside sleeps in a mountain hideaway provided by the Booths. ❤️Plus giggles.
First day of the season on a lift and it was a great one! ❄️❄️❄️Temps 30+ degrees warmer than in town, surprise powder day, and new (to me) terrain at our local hill.❄️ As much fun as touring with Zigs has been the last few months, lift-served steeps and a warm lodge were exactly what today needed. ❄️💙❄️
Today’s ski started with a stop at Pole Creek Cabin via the local nordic trails before doing a little recon with Zigs. ☃️Backcountry skiing is a necessity in the Bighorns without many lift options nearby, but routes are very DIY. ❄️This season is devoted to improving my route making skills and I’m hoping to eventually make my way from here to Sheep Mountain Lookout with skis strapped to my feet.❄️More to progress to come!
Always a treat spending time at Adam Jahiel’s studio up the road in Story, WY. 📸This evening I was with a friend making a purchase, but I made sure to visit my favorite print while she sifted through ranch photos.
Today, Zigs joined me for her very first ski tour. ❄️❄️❄️We kept it super mellow with a visit to our yet-to-open local hill to see how she’d do up and downhill.🐶❄️🐶Spoiler Alert: my little munchkin KILLED it and I’m so excited to have her joining me this season! 💗💗💗
@themuseumofmodernart commissioned @yokoonoofficial to create a full-page insert, in place of a traditional advertisement, for publication in the @nytimes. 💜💙💚💛The resulting artwork, Peace is Power, invites the newspaper’s readers to add color to those areas of the world that they believe “need peace.” The participants were asked to send their contributions to the artist’s attention at MoMA. 🌈🌈🌈A rotating selection of the submissions, on view here, is updated periodically as new contributions are received. ☮️☮️☮️
Adopted a little fraggle! 💗🐶 Say hi to Zigs!🐶💗She's a 9mo old border collie mix and was found as a stray in Rapid City. She's just getting settled, but I know we'll be great trail (and snuggle) buddies!
Portrait mode was MADE for this puppy dog. 🐶💗🐶
Yesterday Ruby🐶 and I ran part of the road to the Sheep Mountain fire lookout (built in 1950 @ 9,600 ft) and scouted new-to-us lines to ski this season. 🏔Once a station for the forest service, you can now reserve the lookout for camping. 🏔
My generous buddy Joel (an amazing arborist) paid a visit to the ranch this morning for a tutorial on trimming the 100+ year old apple trees in the backyard. 🍎🍏🍎
I've been reborn under the light of Cher. 🔮🖤🔮This woman is 71 and put on one of the best shows I've ever witnessed. Being within 10 rows of her didn't damper the enlightenment one bit...🖤
When your best girl gets married👰🏻in a set from Baz Luhrmann's Romeo + Juliet. ❤️The Cranberries were playing. Duh. ❤️
Not only a tourist must-see, but a regular stop for me and the ponies, Kings Saddlery is always a joy. 🐴Today's visit came with a wedding gift for a close friend, new riding gloves for me and a replacement snaffle for Reds. 🐴
My best buddies, Reds and Ruby ❤️🐴❤️🐶during our evening ride aka daily workout for Reds and me to get our abs back.
Smokey arrival into Ten Sleep Canyon last night for Nowoods. ⛰We danced. We drank boxed wine on the street. We s'mored. We stayed @tensleeprockranch. ⛺️
