When I can’t go out walking, I go out eating. I’ve had some absolutely delicious food this half term, courtesy of @salamiandco @fettle and of course @bundobust . But, feck, I weighed myself yesterday.... I need to start moving again soon 😵.
Even when days are grey and blue, there’s still some beauty and joy to be found.
Our cute bothy that we stayed in last weekend. Perfect location for climbing a number of nearby fells or walking down to Aira Force waterfall. 🥾🥾 Unfortunately I won’t be able to climb any mountains or fells for at least four weeks. A recent smear test showed that I had high grade abnormal cells, a colposcopy followed and right there and then they decided they were serious enough to remove the whole lot as they were almost definitely precancerous. I’m not going to lie, the whole process was pretty horrific and I’m still in pain and feeling sorry for myself because I’ve had a lot of my independence stripped from me. HOWEVER it’s not forever. I had my smear test, which meant it didn’t develop further, I received amazing treatment yesterday at St James’ hospital (they played soothing music and had flowers on the ceiling, I also got a cuppa and biscuit in recovery), I have a loving and supporting husband who was with me every step of the way and has been taking care of me since. KEY MESSAGE HERE ~ if you haven’t had your smear or you’ve been avoiding it, go! It’s not worth it. Mine were up to date and this is what has developed in just two years. So go on, be a dear and have your smear.
Monday blues are always worse after a weekend away.
Back in the homelands but dreaming of our next adventure... perhaps we’ll venture up last minute next time, try to beat the weather.
Yesterday’s hiking conditions were a bit sketchy to say the least! We walked up Great Dodd only to be confronted with vertical rain and winds so high at one point I was just walking on the spot not going anyway! Luckily we had a nice warm bothy (complete with log burner) to retire to. We dried our clothes on the underfloor heating and took a nap ready for the evening... I think that means we’re officially old.
Walking in the winter sunshine sure is glorious, but bloody hell my retinas are being burnt by the low sun!! Need to invest in some decent sunglasses...
Which fell to tackle next.... we’re back in the lakes in a few weeks and we’re already excited to get back out there and do some more walking.
