It took several years for our organization to get fully approved by the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance and comply with their rules from paperwork and facility (management)—they inspect every single detail about our program down to every scrap of hay. They really were instrumental in helping us raise up to the top of our game. It was an agonizing few years, but it was well worth it. I’m excited for the future the horses in our area will have. I can’t wait to see that first Thoroughbred graze on this beautiful blue grass. -TAA-accredited Second Stride's Kim Smith Here are a few scenes (via Suzie Picou-Oldham) from Second Stride's ceremony today celebrating their new land donation from Dinwiddie and Irene Lampton.

As part of the accreditation process, the TAA performs site inspections to make sure organizations meet the TAA's code of standards. One recent site inspector who was visiting Equine Encore Foundation sent us a note (along with this photo) about how impressed they were at the TAA-accredited facility. Patti Shirley not only gave me every horses’ name (78) but where it raced and in most cases, who trained it. She also knows each one’s personality and describes who their buddies are in the paddock. All horses are in excellent weight and coats look great. The older set—20+ years—are all in the same area and receive extra feed. They look in excellent health for their advanced age. Learn more about accreditation and TAA's code of standards at ThoroughbredAftercare.org.
