• As more and more access to vaccinations become available, I urge you to get The Shot! The best way to get back to our normal lives is to get people inoculated. I personally have had no issues or effects from the vaccine. #GetTheShot #LasVegas #CedricCrear

  • I used to park Vernon Jordan’s car at the Georgetown Club in DC when I was attending Howard University. At the time, I did not know the power he yielded nor his history fighting civil rights. He never acted that way. He was a very nice and very classy man. I’m blessed I had an opportunity to meet him. Thank you and Rest in Power Archon Jordan. #VernonJordan

Brother Charles Hamilton Houston was a prominent African-American lawyer, Dean of Howard University Law School, and NAACP first special counsel, or Litigation Director. A graduate of Amherst College and Harvard Law School, Brother Houston played a significant role in dismantling Jim Crow laws, especially attacking segregation in schools and racial housing covenants. He earned the title “The Man Who Killed Jim Crow.”

When several black lawyers were refused admission to the American Bar Association in 1925, they founded the National Bar Association. Brother Houston was a founding member of the affiliated Washington Bar Association. From 1929 to 1935, Houston served as Vice-Dean and Dean of the Howard University School of Law. He developed the school into a major national center for training Black lawyers. Houston served as a mentor to a generation, influencing nearly one-quarter of all the Black lawyers in the United States at the time, including former student Brother Thurgood Marshall. Brother Houston believed that the law could be used to fight racial discrimination and encouraged his students to work for such social purpose.

Houston left Howard in 1935 to serve as the first special counsel for the NAACP, serving in this role until 1940. In this capacity, he created litigation strategies to attack racial housing covenants and segregated schools, arguing several important civil rights cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. Through his work at the NAACP, Houston played a role in nearly every civil rights case that reached the US Supreme Court between 1930 and Brown v. Board of Education (1954).

  • My first date with my wife Keiba was inside Blackburn at the “PunchOut” on the campus of Howard University. 34 years later we are still side-by-side and the best of friends. Thanks for saying Yes Keiba. #PunchOut #BlackBurn #HowardUniversity

  • Two years ago our city team traveled with the college of southern Nevada team to San Antonio to witness first hand their successful workforce efforts.

Since then, we partnered with CSN on a $6.9 million EDA grant, I’m told it is the largest EDA grant ever awarded in Nevada, and have plans to break ground this year on our workforce center in the Historic Westside. Major progress is being made and lives will be changed for the better. #CSN #LasVegas #Ward5 #CedricCrear
