Some days we hit the ground running with that cartoon cloud of dust billowing behind us and our feet moving to a silly little tune. Other days? We’re vacuuming up spilled Cheerios before we even get started 🤦🏻♀️ . The cubs will have to handle this one because Dad and I are racing to get to his employee interviews, grab enough groceries at Target to tide us over and keep us away from take-out for the next few days and then get back home for a photo shoot for an upcoming brand collaboration (post a 🤗 below if you want me to take you along on my stories today). . How is your Monday morning going? Any chance you have seen my misplaced clones running around? 🤷🏻♀️ Here’s to living on a prayer, friends. It’s pretty much all I got... 🎤Take my hand, we’ll make it I swear. Woah oh, livin’ on a prayer... 🎼
If you have been around here longer than a day you know that he is affectionately known as The Big Guy. He will be the first to play the sensitive card with a sly smile and wink, telling us the name is because of his literal size. . And while, yes. He is the pillar of everything manly from the beard all the way down to the width of his calves, the meaning behind his title is so much more for the rest of us. He loves big, he laughs big and he comforts big. It’s hard to not feel completely at ease and loved in his presence. . Our life is so full of all the things and he handles it like he was made for it. His laid back attitude and patience is unmatched and his inclination to dive in and help where help is needed - from dishes to diapers - is unparalleled, complete with singing and dancing while scrubbing bathrooms. . There is no one who works harder at building a life for his family and fulfilling the dreams we have than him. The kids and I are beyond blessed and we thank the heavens above that he is ours. . Happy Father’s Day to all of the amazing dads doing it right out there! ❤️
My current view 😍 . I used to love taking part in the summer reading challenge at our local library as a kid. I could get lost in a book instantly back in those days. . I wanted to carry on the tradition of summer reading with my kids and nothing will ever beat seeing my oldest reading or the youngers running to me with their favorite pick. Every time a new book arrives on the doorstep, their eyes light up and they can’t wait to add it to the collection on the shelf. Thank goodness for the slower pace of summer and for good old traditional page turning. . What is one of your family’s favorite summer traditions? // #DTEwithKaraLayne #DTESummerChallenge
I think it’s easy in this digital age for us to just snap away from our devices and not think about the long term effect and what we are leaving behind. I mean, think about looking through family photos of your parents and even older - what sticks out the most? . Even in this digital age and with the unlimited space we have, we can curate and collect beautiful and meaningful portraits of our loved ones and everyday life. And I’m sure the generations to come will forever be grateful for the love and care taken in telling our stories. . This and so much more is what you can find in my online and self-paced course, Documenting the Everyday: iPhone Edition. From technical knowledge to training your eye to create those timeless portraits - all right from your smartphone. Kind of incredible what we have available at our fingertips, right? . Click the link in my profile and scroll down to find out more information and to purchase. You will also be added to our private online community where I am always diving in, answering questions, announcing challenges and giveaways and where everyone is able to learn from each other as we all document our everyday story beautifully. I hope to see you there! . And in the meantime, tell me below what your biggest hangup is when it comes to your smartphone photos and I will be making sure and answering them right here on this post. Or, if you have already purchased the course, tell me below what your favorite thing has been so others can get an idea of what to expect 😘
Because summer☀️All of the later evenings with more time to spend together. I mean, we’ve got to squeeze in the sweet and gooey stuff here and there, right? The kind that leave your belly feeling a little stretched but your heart a little full as you all lick your fingers clean in between the goofy sleepy silly grins? . Okay then! Head over to Haus of Layne today to catch one of our favorite desserts for those later evenings spent watching a favorite flick and cuddles on the couch! . What’s your family’s go-to indulgence at home?
Whether it’s taking another big leap, rejoicing in an answered prayer or traipsing through the mud, it always has and always will be you who I want by my side through it all... (read the rest of my anniversary letter to my better half over at the Haus of Layne). Here’s to fourteen years and forever more ❤️
Monsoon season begins this week here in the desert. And we are doing all of our best dance moves for the rain gods to have the moisture pour down upon us and never stop (totally Sandra Bullock in The Proposal style 😉💃🏻). If you have never experienced a desert monsoon storm, you need to come and visit because it is unlike any other ❤️ I’m giddy just thinking about it. What is your favorite season where you live?
Always whispering sweet nothings into this little one’s ears. Alright, alright... those sweet nothings are more like, “STOP GROWING UP SO FAST BECAUSE YOU’RE BREAKIN’ MY HEART, BOOG!”... Geesh. Mama can’t seem to catch a break these days 😭💔😍 . Alright friends. Friday has graced us with her presence once again and that means it’s time for another round of #FridayIntroductions 💃🏻🙌 Here we go with three random facts... . 1️⃣: I once was on a movie set and it was so cool to see the behind the scenes. If you watch 50 First Dates, just know that I am sitting in a booth somewhere in that cafe just out of sight 😉 P.S. That cafe and the view from it was all from inside an airplane hangar in L.A. 😂 2️⃣: I almost died my junior year of high school. Rushed to the hospital with trouble breathing which turned out to be blood clots (several on my lungs and behind my knee). My teen years and entire life completely changed after that. 3️⃣: I hate massages. Like, I’m a hugger and totally comfortable with physical touch for the most part, but I hate lying there totally silent and being rubbed down by someone that I don’t even know. Totally awkward. It’s also why I don’t get facials 😂 . So friend... tell me: What is one seemingly normal and everyday thing that everyone else seems to be fine with that you can’t stand (kinda like my massage hang up). Be sure and comment below and Happy Friday!! 💃🏻🙌
There are days when I sit in this space and I am totally in control. The ideas are like fireworks, the inspiration never ceases and I have the answers to everything. I’m totally in control. . And then there are other days. The inspiration is lacking, the frustration is plenty and the lack of connection with my work is painfully apparent. . You know what? That’s creative business. It’s actually business no matter what industry. There are ups and downs and it ebbs and flows. You have to be willing to take the good with the bad because otherwise, you have no business being on the edge of that cliff ready to take the leap. . But the best part? You aren’t alone. We are all going through the same things. Never assume anyone has it all figured out. We are all just passionate humans striving towards big goals and bigger visions. So hang in there my fellow, dreamer. Because with each roadblock comes an even sweeter reward down the way just a little bit farther. Keep going ❤️
... Never let anyone’s reaction to that confidence and your spirit make you feel you have to play anything small. You are a bright light and you should never try and hide that. People around you, even those closest to you sometimes, will struggle with a girl being as confident as you are, but use it for good and never apologize for it. It will help you do great and amazing things which I know you are meant for ❤️ . More of my annual letter to our Miss Blair on her 5th birthday today on HausOfLayne.com (Link in profile) 💃🏻🎂🎉🎈
As social media has grown during the time I have been in business, nobody really told me how wonderful it would feel to build a community through it. . While my community is small and mighty (much preferred that way for more genuine interactions), I have been EXTREMELY blessed by the individuals who have continued to show up and cheer me and my passion on - even despite my many shortcomings, failures and stumbles 🙈 . I guess I just want to say thank you. To YOU. For showing up at all, let alone again and again. Not a single like, comment, message or email comes though that I don’t notice. It means the world that you take time out of your own full and busy life to take notice of what goes on over here. It always has and always will. Believe you me. . So please keep showing up. Because all of this is so much sweeter with you a part of it. And I will also keep showing up and serving you with everything I’ve got. Because you getting me and what I’m doing? Well, shucks 😊️ . And I love hearing from you so post below and tell me how long you have been around and what you show up for 👍😘💋 . P.S. This month’s free wallpaper download went out to my entire community last week. Did you get it? If not, make sure to join in the fun by subscribing to my email list (Link in profile) and see for yourself just how great this community really is 😘
Our favorite tunes from our family playlist quietly filled the evening air as we sat and watched the sun set on the desert. We talked about going to the movies with friends, how many times a day is just the right amount for the pool, the road trips we have been wanting to take and all of the other things that make our eyes big and our faces stretched with smiles as we think about the weeks ahead. We also talked about this being the summer that we revel in the art of slow living and all that comes with it... . I think we all can fall trap to this sometimes. It’s human nature and that is hard to combat when we aren’t paying attention or have too much time on our hands. However, from experience, I can attest to the power of speaking and thinking positively not only about myself and my own life, but ABSOLUTELY about others and theirs. Like, real, unexplainable power. Try it and you’ll see 😘❤️
Today we missed the big guy terribly. Mostly because I didn’t have the buddy system, ya know? Like, hey honey. I’m curling my hair and feeding the baby Cheerios, go yell at this kid for hitting that kid. . Jarett had a last minute work emergency and had to leave us to go handle it. And while he met us just in time for church today (thank goodness since it was a big day for our Tanner), it was all me. The shoe finding, the shirt pressing, the last minute yelling and threatening if people didn’t brush their teeth like I asked them to 30 minutes earlier... . There’s really no moral to this story. Simply that motherhood is a crazy ride and whether you have one or eight... heaven bless us all for surviving it 😜 Don’t be so hard on yourself. We’re all doing better than we think I’m sure 😘❤️ . #HofLDoesChurch No.28 #HisDay
I swear, the small town charm and touch of mountain air took years off my face 😂🙈 or maybe I just found myself unable to stop smiling while we were there. It was all the charm and none of the normal - just what we needed. . Where’s your favorite small town and why do you love about it?
THAT CARD MESSAGE 😂 Leave me two thumbs up below if humorous cards are the best cards 👍👍 . One thing I have always tried to do is extend the traditions and memories I had as a kid - the kind that give me a lump in my throat now as an adult - to my own children. With Father’s Day around the corner, our house is buzzing with excitement since ‘the big guy’ is kind of our favorite ❤️ Head to Haus Of Layne to catch what my favorite tradition with the kids is as well as an easy and simple gift idea that will make Father’s Day a memorable one. . What traditions have you created with your kids to celebrate Dad? #sponsored
Me and my oldest up north back in 2012. I’ll tell you... the days are long, but the years are oh so short 😭❤️ . Don’t get me wrong. Technology is great. And I enjoy the benefits of it everyday - I mean I just launched an online, self-paced course all about how to photograph everyday life beautifully and right from your iPhone. . But what I also touch on? The importance of creating tangible evidence of life lived. Because your memories will always, always be better enjoyed when they can be touched and felt and loved on. Not just viewed through a screen. Where’s the romance in that? . Documenting the Everyday: the iPhone Edition is the first of three courses as part of the educational series and the end result? To not only have the tools and knowledge to photograph daily life, but to also create amazing and stunning home movies AND to have the ideal setup and organized system that allows you to have both your tangible and digital family media right at your fingertips. To enjoy anytime you want to. And find that one Christmas that the kids were surprised with a puppy. Or pull up baby photos of your oldest because yesterday you just sat in the crowd at his high school graduation. That’s the goal, right? To actually be enjoying your memories with loved ones on the daily as well as creating new ones. And of course, documenting all the new ones beautifully. . Click the link in my profile to find out more about the course and to purchase it for yourself. Because you have a story to tell and you deserve it to be told beautifully. . http://bit.ly/documenting-the-everyday // #DTEwithKaraLayne
We will be in the water all day every day for the next two months to compete with the heat, but you won’t ever hear them complaining 💦☀️🌵 . How warm is it where you live and what is your go-to activity in the summer?
