What a colorful, fun-filled wedding day for Melissa and Josh! The energy was high, the vibe was strong and the dance floor was hoppin' (thanks to some excellent late 90s-early 2000s hits and solid DJ-ing by @jammindjs). Here's to celebrating major good times, y'all!
Loved this sweet, not-just-two-people-dancing Father/Daughter dance from earlier this summer. Dad's are the best when it comes to going hand-in-hand with us throughout life. They offer a different grip, a different perspective. May we never get too old to hold our Daddy's hand. // Let's get this wedding weekend party started!
Cue Elvin Bishop 🎶My dawg, she's a good ol' dawg 🎶 Just a lil' somethin' from a solid Sunday hike with @_queenmagz and @travisb18. If you don't know Elvin Bishop, then a) my dad is cooler than yours and b) GO. LISTEN. NOW. My Dog, Beer Drinkin' Woman, Stealin' Watermelons among my faves.
I love zis state. I feel I've typed that before, but it's #TRU. Every time I sit down to post or plan (*jokes,* not a planner) posts, I get sucked into this vortex of HOW DO I CHOOSE?! Partially because I love like every single photo I've taken in Colorado and want to share ALL OF THEM. But also because of this dumb cycle I've been trapped in since...forever? Have you ever heard of that deathly triangle of perfectionism, fear of failure/rejection and procrastination? I first heard of it in my sports psych class (what up, coaching minor?!) at UNC. It was one of those totally clarifying light bulb moments for me. I've always been a perfectionist--ask anyone I went to school with--even when I thought I shook it in college. Turns out, you don't shake perfectionism. You just mask it with other things. With it comes an underlying fear of failure and rejection (because what if a, b or c isn't absolutely perfect?!), which ultimately leads to putting things off and being the world's worst procrastinator. Deadlines are fab because I'll break my neck to meet them (and please the other party, eh?). But what about when you're in charge of your own internal deadlines? It's a vicious, crippling cycle full of lies and doubt. Today, in this moment, I'm clinging to this--there is grace, even for me, and actually, I don't have to be perfect because my true gifts, my true talents, my true Identity is much, much better. So as we all grapple with freedom and grace, tell me. Where do you need encouragement? What's your self-talk? And go ahead, name where you're actually killin' it but need to believe it.
Timelines. Thomas and I have never been good at them. Even though I'm totally the impatient one, together we've always bumped and pushed and moved timelines. As movers and shakers, our lives are never dull or boring! This weekend we bumped up another timeline and I think it's one of our best yet. We welcomed Sydney to our family! She's a 2 1/2 year old blue merle Australian Shepherd aka my dream dog. And she's REALLY a dream. Syd is an absolute sweetheart love muffin cuddle bug who's really into hugs and belly rubs and people and dogs and running and hiking and epically jumping over rock obstacles. And we love her SO much already! (More pics in story!)
Shhhhhh, I snuck my lil' @fujifilmx_us up the mountain at @arapahoe_basin to Alex and Heidi's wedding on Sunday. It was a GORGEOUS evening. A bit overcast and drizzly at first, as mountains often are, until one point during the ceremony when the sun just washed Heidi and Alex in its beautiful golden light. We were so thrilled to celebrate our new neighbors in such a stunning setting, I couldn't resist snagging just one real photo. Congrats Heidi and Alex, best neighbz eva!!! Eeeekkkk can't wait to shoot here someday! Also. These florals. 😍😍 I'm ready to fast forward to the @lularosegeneral flower class tonight with @kwcarlin! 👏🏽💕🦄✨
Summertime always feels like a different kind of joyful whirlwind where you forget which day it is, days seem long and weeks seem short. It just flies by. ((And before you know it, you haven't posted in a week!)) My time with these chickadees sure flew by and I wish they were still here 😭😭 We had only a few days to explore some of the vast beauty and fun Colorado has to offer, but we packed it in and had a blast. This is Molly and Macy towards the end of their senior photo sessions at Rocky Mountain National Park. We were breathless at every curve and corner. We also were the people who may or may not have been more focused on our shoot than the elk, bighorn sheep and other creatures that were being watched. 😌😌 WHAT the heck is this place?! Otherworldly. I hope I never take it for granted.
For six of the last seven years of my life, Thomas and I have lead Young Life together. That's how we met and ultimately fell in love serving together on the front lines. It's a ministry we believe in wholeheartedly. On a fall day in 2014, I met the cutest gaggle of freshmen girls at Whitefield Academy in Atlanta. Over the next three years, they became some of my greatest friends. Last summer, I had the incredible privilege of taking this Fab Five to Frontier Ranch in Buena Vista, where this photo was taken. If there was one thing that broke my heart in leaving Atlanta, it was leaving these girls behind. But we all knew that this move was not the end of our friendship, nor our adventures. At this very moment, I'm waiting at Denver International Airport to pick up two of these special gems for a few days of exploring Colorado together. @mollylangella and @macykendrick , the mountains are calling you! Here's to celebrating a different kind of freedom today! To learn more about young life and get a cameo of my story, click the link in my profile.
The @letteredwest studio is graced with simple, thoughtful beauty. I never feel like photographing inanimate details is a strong suit, or even a preference, of mine, but I couldn't get ENOUGH of @kwcarlin's details. I was drawn to each and every item on its own, as well as effortless groupings like this one. The cactus is my special fave. 🤗🌵And the mountain mini reminds me of our semi-spontaneous adventure to summit Mt. Quandary this weekend. At the 14, 265' summit just outside of Breckenridge, you've got panoramic views of the crazy beauty that is Colorado's incredible geography--snow-capped peaks, alpine forests and miles and miles of grasslands right up to the next range of peaks.
We like venturing to the remote, to the dreamy Neverlands. This photo was taken somewhere along the Cali coast--that creamy, only-on-the-best-coast light should be a dead giveaway. 🤤 Earlier we schemed and noodles on a Game of Thrones trip 🤓🤓🤓 Who knows where's next?! I dunno, but where YOU goin' this weekend???
Goin', goin'...almost gone! ONE spot left for my Colorado wedding promo! If you or anyone you know is looking for an awesome wedding photographer (ahem, yours truly 💁), holla atcha girl or tag them in the comments ⬇️⬇️⬇️. I will literally never do this again because, duh, Colorado forever. Who's eligible? Well, not everyone. Sorry pals. Only if you're a Coloradoan gettin' married (anywhere) or you're gettin' married in Colorado because it's awesome and you want to be a Coloradoan. Sorry ATL and Carolina. Already got your photog on lockdown, but you want some epic portraits (think sand dunes, mountains, alpine lakes, a more creative adventure)? I gotchu. ✌️spots left for that. THIS getaway photo is from Brett and Therese's reception at the Barn at Evergreen Memorial Park. The were skedaddlin' off to their European honeymoon. I like the way they think. 💥💥💥
#TRAVELTUESDAY 🏕 and #TACOTUESDAY 🌮 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 And I thought I didn't have a plan for dinner tonight! That's crazy talk. We ALWAYS have the goods for tacos. This is another one from scouting Mt. Blanca base camp at @theoffgridhomestead a couple weekends ago. SUCH a fun assignment. Walsenburg is a little one-horse town, but it has some big, beautiful skies and fun details--don't all the lil' towns? The light painted this town oh-so-pretty. Reminded me of home. 😊
Headed into the weekend like, YAY! I LOVE YOU! LET'S GO! But seriously, one thing I truly hope for (and have prayed for) is that I get butterflies during every wedding I shoot because I'm reminded of my own love story. It means my love is still alive and that I'm watching a new chapter of someone else's unfold. My hope for my people is enduring, fearless, laugh-till-you-pee-your-pants, things-can't-get-weirder-or-more-fun-than-this, alive kind of love. So, raise your rosé (or, if you're like me, your pint o' Colorado craft beer) and cheers to the freakin' weekend, to SUMMER and to bein' ALIVE WITH THE GLORY OF LOVE! (
Spent my afternoon at the wonderful @letteredwest digs soaking in the loveliness and talent of the gal behind the press, @kwcarlin. I am amazed at the work and forethought that goes into letterpress, especially this ol' guy from 1896. He's a handsome beaut, ay?! My eyes swept across the studio in complete awe of the space, the machine, the process, the product and the artistry behind it all. Letterpress is next level stunning, and talk about timeless, heirloom, legacy. I mean wow. As Whitner mentioned to me today, there's just something really special to behold about this age-old craft in today's fast-paced, mass-produced digital world. Gosh, I can't wait to share more. (And Don't kill me, Whitner! This is the only one I snagged where you made an appearance! 😜)
THIS is Colorado. This past weekend, Thomas and I hit the road for a lil' adventure in the south central part of the state for a @hipcamp field scout assignment. We stayed at the base of Mt. Blanca hosted by @theoffgridhomestead and it was AWESOME exploring the area. One of our escapades included the nearby @greatsanddunesnps and all I could think of was bringing a couple down here for an epic shoot. Most of my images isolated the dunes and most of Thomas' included mountains, so it was fun to see how our minds work differently together. This one shows the vastness of the dunes, but hints at the incredible juxtaposition of those big ol' Rocky Mountains. Get outta here, right?! It reminded me of being in the Sahara...BUT at the base of the dunes, snow melt makes a creek April-June where #allthepeople come to cool off and where the kiddos and pups splash all day (Home on the Range, anyone?). So, OBVIOUSLY calling all adventurous couples--who wants to play?!?!! What's the coolest place you've ever visited in Colorful Colorado?
