Drove to the country, made some new friends. Nature is both bright and moody, so I can be that too, right? In all seriousness, @hwalkerrr and fam, thanks for being so much fun and showcasing all my favorite pieces of home: pines, cotton, rolling hills, horses, down home kindness, family, big trucks, pastures and a good ol' hometown love story. Carolina, you keep callin' me home and it ain't hard to see why. Now back to being a Carolina girl in a Colorado world. 😊Can't wait till your wedding, Tyler and Haley--see y'all soon!!!
It's a travel day and this is a travel photo and it's light and pretty and filled with a Carolina Blue Sky...in Colorado. But I'm headed for those real Carolina skies. And as Eric Church sings, Carolina, you keep callin' me home. 💕✨🐑
WELCOME TO YOUR SOON-TO-BE HOME, Y'ALL! I loved getting to squeeze in this quick session with Caroline and Chaz while they're in town for a hot minute. These two have been going all day (literally since 1 am) and they held out a lil while longer to hang with me in front of another phenomenal Colorado sunset. Five years, two kiddos and almost three cities later and their love is pure and joyful and totally palpable. I love you, Fausels, and I'm SO stoked y'all are moving here. Now please choose Denver 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼😁😘😅
Where do I even begin? Jess and Justin detoured to Denver when our childhood friend's wedding was canceled due to Hurricane Irma. Thomas and I absolutely love hosting people, so it was a super sweet treat to have these two in town all week. Each day, they ventured out to some awesome corner of Colorado and this one day I got to meet them on a mountain afterwards for their very own engagement shoot. Jess and I have been friends since we were 12 and I'm pretty sure there's still a long line etched in concrete laid by my grandpa outside my home, Jecca and Ash BFFAATTVE. (Best Friends Forever and Always Till the Very End, in case you're not up to speed on middle school abbrevs. 😂). Jec, it was so fun having y'all around this week. And I'm incredibly thankful that I got to share this time with you, catch up on life (and the dread of reunions 😅😂😜😝) and then the real pleasure of photographing your beautiful, fun, silly, joyful love. ✨💕
Beautiful people in beautiful places celebrating beautiful love makes my job ✨🦄💕💯One of my favorites from Jess and Justin's stunning engagement shoot this evening. Y'all are the best and that was the most fun. Xoxoxo
You're my blue sky, you're my sunny day. Lord, you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way, was the Allman Brothers lyric that floated through my head all day Saturday on Thomas' birthday. I say this every year on your birthday, but I sure am thankful for you, my co-adventurer, my teammate. This is my favorite guy and our favorite dog doing one of our favorite things in one of our favorite places. We rose at 4am to hike up to this looming beauty in the dark--Syd on the leash, headlamps on our head, a fox scampering across the trail, the evening sky radiant with a majestic starscape. When we reached the top, there was no one else there. Just us and all the land before us. It's not often that you get a summit sunrise all to yourselves. But I sorta feel like my whole life's adventure is like this summit sunrise with Thomas. Here's to celebrating you, T, and all of life's summit sunrises that are just ours.
These days, there's a lil' more gold in the leaves, a lil' more snow on those mountains and a wee bit colder outside...I'll take it either way! It's been crazy busy around here, and I'll take that, too! Gearing up for some awesome weddings, super fun engagement shoots (I'm lookin' at you @chelseamataaa and @darcienich!) loads of guests and all the best things that autumn has to offer.
Gabi and Zac, thanks for gallivanting through trailhead meadows with me today. You're the best!!
La Push, baby. It's La Push. That's right, this is La Push and I luhhrrrvvvv adventurous destinations for weddings and portraits. Who wants to play?! Also, this is an excellent dose of boho bridal fashion inspo! Thanks for the feature, @loverly!
Tuesday's got cool views if you look up. And @denverbotanic's got layers and lines and textures and colors, oh my! Sweated through some solid inspo on Nanny's last day in DEN.
PRO TIP: Treat yo' self for your portrait sessions. Hair, makeup, nails, even an epic dress (Jackie snagged this beautiful number from Rent the Runway). Get your fella in a good lookin' suit for at least a lil' bit. You'll rest easy and feel more confident knowing that you (both!) look your best for the beautiful photos you've invested in. One of my favorite engagement shoots to date...and now they're married!! Jackie and Greg, I wish you all the very best in the world and may you always look at each other like this--you two are just a dream. 😘💕✨
Thomas left on a dime last week for Nashville to help hold down the operational fort as his company's air medical programs in the southeast prepared for Irma. As of a few hours ago, things are in the clear and he snagged the very last seat on a flight home this evening. We do life a lot better together and I JUST CAN'T WAIT FOR MY GUY TO BE HOME! BTW, this is Colorado. It's cool here. No 'canes, no fires. Just cool. Well maybe some fires. But nature needs natural fires. So it's fine. Also I don't have a TV or the news. Also fine. #journalismmajor
I adore this little cactus guy that lives in the @letteredwest studio. Mostly because I feel like he's middle fingers UP to the world and he's the perfect Monday cactus. But it's Friday. And I'm tired. And this week sorta had me like this guy. And every day I look at my Insta feed and I'm like this needs to calm the F down. I've been thinking a whole lot about perfectionism and its crippling effects on this non-type A creative soul. More on that later, but today I'm just declaring that while this tool may help my business grow, I refuse to get sucked in. I refuse to be inauthentic. Genuine and true is at the core of my being and if that means I don't follow back or I don't post some amazing photo every. single. day. Then so be it. As the lines of business and personal are (necessarily?) blurred these days, I'm putting a stake in this: My art, my people and me. We'll be here long after Instagram or whatever fades into the distance with the likes of Myspace, AIM, flip phones, CDs and all the other ancients that were once the next big thing. Mmm, now time to walk the dog.
Have I mentioned how much I love these ol' mountains? Oh, ok, I thought so. 😋 Truth is, they're not even close to being the oldest mountains in the country, much less the world. But dang, they are majestic in their newness, before time and the world and it's people have worn them all down. I love the way they tower over you, swallow you up, strike you with awe and occasionally, at just the right place and time, climb atop their barren peaks and allow you to experience rare and magnificent views. These grand mountains take you out of yourself and remind you of how small you are--what a treasure it is to be a part of something so much bigger. Also. This Vail wedding was one for the books.
We love our pup, we love our friends, we love our hikes, we love our state and we love the great outdoors. Oh, and duh, we love each other! Had the best time gettin' around with our dearest bestest frandz this weekend. We missssss you @fatchuck88 and @blaircofield!!! Also I'm quite thankful for my girl @acwong--she never lets me down or steers me wrong! ILYSM ANNA!!! You da best!!! 😘😘😘
