• So far I have finished exactly two lockdown projects: @zoemurphydesign’s embroidery kit, and making over the builder’s grade hit and miss fence that’s on two sides of the garden. One was fun with an embroidery hoop. One was an absolute pain in me hoop 😬 I second guessed the dark colour until literally the last slat was done but it looks great, even on a dull overcast day like this, and really makes the greens of the plants pop. Ideally I’d replace the fence with contemporary horizontal slatted screens, or use pleached trees or a fence topper for a bit of additional privacy, but shur lookit. Himself thinks having 50-ish projects on the go at any one time (a) makes me certifiable and (b) means I’ll never get the satisfaction of getting any of them finished. But actually my expert level procrastination and desire for unattainable perfection nicely take care of both, thank you. Lately I’ve found that having a pair of under-5s underfoot all day makes it even more important to have several things on the boil - because while I might not get a window of opportunity to get the ceiling in the downstairs loo painted or make that birdcage light for Freya’s room or eat a single meal in peace, I just might grab enough time to sneak in a few stitches or get a paint sample on some lining paper. Might. Side note: what’s the collective noun for under-5s? An interruption? A screech? A “mommmeeeEEEEE!!!”?   • Today, I’m planning the #isolationredecoration of the master bathroom 🛁 Swipe for how it pretty much still looks, 13 years later 🥴 I’ve been debating whether to go all out happy kitsch or shoot for a more elegant, timeless, ‘grown up’ space, but since it’s the family bathroom (and I got a bit trigger happy online shopping for it yesterday) I’ve decided on a room that looks like Instagram threw up on it. Millennial pink? Check. Pink tiles? Check. Palm leaf print? You bet your sweet ass. The existing white tiles are grand, if a bit large in scale, but rather than tear them out I’m hoping to paint them to hopefully mimic the look of these beauties. Swipe for the blurry AF photo from the original listing in 2007, if you dare 💩🎃🍊 Considering this makeover was carried out more than a decade (and two tenants!) ago, it’s all held up very well. We replaced the lino with, well, nicer lino, and then I spent every spare waking minute filling, sanding, prepping, priming, cutting in, trialling rollers, painting, intercoat sanding, and laying off Ronseal Cupboard Paint to banish the brown. On a trip to London I finally found ‘expensive looking’ crystal knobs which had a price tag to match 😬 and babied them home to the midlands from Portobello Road. B + Q was raided for the silver pulls, and since the white builder’s grade tiles didn’t bother me I left them alone and called the project done. I was so sick of painting by the time it was finished! But it was totally worth the effort for such an impactful improvement, especially in a room you use every. single. day. I adore the print but not the wildly expensive unmatted white frame that the shop insisted on selling it to him in on Christmas Eve. Bah hum-profiteering-bug. Anyway, I just swapped it out for this humble black not-solid-wood IKEA Ribba because the other one was making my eyes bleed, and it’s a serious visual upgrade IMHO.
