“You may have to make a lot of noise, and the universe’s silence can be oppressive and thick. But you want them to hear you, and they will. So do not, not even for one second, stop making noise.” — Morgan Rogers, Honey Girl Happy Saturday guys! I'm not sure how to start this caption, but a lot has been going on in the world and on bookstagram lately, and I think we're all tired of it. So today, I'm here with some books recommendations that I think are important for our society. I read Me And White Supremacy by Layla F. Saad last year and I found it really interesting, well developed and so so important! This book teaches readers how to dismantle the privilege within themselves so that they can stop (often unconsciously) inflicting damage on people of colour, and in turn, help other white people do better, too. I would recommend this book to everyone honestly, it's a short book full of historical info, context and reflections on white supremacy. “Your desire to be seen as good can actually prevent you from doing good, because if you do not see yourself as part of the problem, you cannot be part of the solution.” The Black Flamingo by Dean Atta is a beautiful book written in verse that deals with topics such as racism, gender identity and sexuality. I absolutely loved it (listened to the audiobook last year) and I had to buy a hardcover copy. 🤍 As for Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers, I just finished it yesterday, and I LOVED IT. It's honestly a love story to millennials people. It's an adult contemporary about a 28 years old woman who worked hard all her life and just couldn't do it anymore. It's a story about life, about burn-outs, about the pressure we, millennials, have to endure, about racism and how BIPOC people have to work harder all the time, and it's also a sapphic love story. The writing was BEAUTIFUL, it felt so lyrical and I was honestly amazed because it's so rare in contemporary romance novels?? Anyway, everyone go read this book.

“Wholeness, she had learned, was not the absence of pain but the ability to hold it.” — M.L. Wang, The Sword of Kaigen Hey everyone! What books do you want to read soon? The Sword of Kaigen has been on my TBR for ages, and I'm finally planning to read it in the next few weeks! It's an adult fantasy standolone with an Asian setting and multiple POVs, and I don't really know more than that but I'm definitely intrigued! I've also heard nothing but AMAZING things about it so I'm really hyped about this book. Have you read it? ✨ #theswordofkaigen #diverseread #mlwang #standalone #asianfantasy #bookstagram #booksofig #fantasy #fortheloveofbooks #booknerd #booklover #bibliophile #bookstack #bookphotography #folkandstory #bookster #vscobook #readerlife #alwaysreading #booktography #booklover #readingforpleasure #bookwormsunite #bookishallure #bookdepository #readingforfun #bookaholic #booksarelove

“The grace of kings is not the same as the morals governing individuals.” — Ken Liu, The Grace of Kings Hey y'all! 🌸 We're already well into the month of April, and I can't believe how fast this year flew by already. What were your favorite reads of 2021 so far? These 5 books are mine! They were all amazing, and even though they weren't all 5 stars, they came really close and I loved reading them so much! 🌸 The Burning God by R.F. Kuang: the third and last book in The Poppy War trilogy, it was amazing, full of wars and colonialism, and absolutely heartbreaking to read. The ending was bittersweet and I'll love these characters to the end. 🌸 Dragon Mage by M.L. Spencer: a fantastic old-school fantasy and coming of age story with an immersive world-building, dragons, beautiful friendships and an autistic main character. 🌸 The Grace of Kings by Ken Liu: an historical fantasy story based on Ancient Chinese history, full of wars and revolutions, military strategy and politics with gorgeous prose and fantastic characters. 🌸 Elantris by Brandon Sanderson: his amazing debut novel with an amazing world-building, intriguing and mysterious magic system, great characters and full of politics! 🌸 Malice by John Gwynne: a coming of age story with old-school tropes such as the chosen one, animal companion and prophecy, filled with battles with giants, political intrigue, betrayals and wars. If you love Game of Thrones, you'll love this one! ✨ #book #bookstagram #cosy #elantris #brandonsanderson #theburninggod #rfkuang #thegraceofkings #malice #dragonmage #bookish #booklover #fantasy #currentlyreading #reading #instabook #igreads #cosyreading #booklove #booknerd #photooftheday #goodreads #bookphotography #bookworm #booklife #ilovebooks #amreading #bibliophile #bookstagramfeature

“Angry mothers raise daughters fierce enough to fight wolves.” — Nghi Vo, The Empress of Salt and Fortune Happy week end guys! 🌸 Do you like to read novellas? I read The Empress of Salt and Fortune last month and really enjoyed it. This was a beautiful Asian inspired feminist story about an Empress and her rise to power, through the eyes of her handmaiden. It was told as a fairytale through flashbacks and stories within stories, filled with metaphors and gorgeous prose, but with also the brutal actions and consequences of political wars. It was beautiful, gripping and didn't shy away in representing the abrupt ways of monarchy. It was so hypnotic and impressive. With only 100 pages, I was totally immersed and fascinated, and even though I wanted more, the ending felt satisfying. 4✨. 🌸 #theempressofsaltandfortune #diverseread #nghivo #novella #asianfantasy #bookstagram #booksofig #fantasy #fortheloveofbooks #booknerd #booklover #bibliophile #bookstack #bookphotography #folkandstory #bookster #vscobook #readerlife #alwaysreading #booktography #booklover #readingforpleasure #bookwormsunite #bookishallure #bookdepository #readingforfun #bookaholic #booksarelove
