Before / during / after @ellenreidmusic's cathartic Ground to Steel Dust for cello & percussion with the amazing @rkarre at the Knoxville Museum of Art. Thanks to @bigearsfestival for blowing my mind over and over and to @iceensemble for letting me join in. I'll be back at Big Ears next year whether I'm a participating artist or not. There's a great fly fishing river nearby, too. Come with me!
1st work of 2019: a 15-minute unaccompanied violin suite for the incomparable @alexikenney
Ayane & Paul update: We are full steam ahead on our viola+cello debut record! Huge thanks to Ryan Streber of Oktaven Audio for his magic ears and to our amazing guests Raman Ramakrishnan & Melissa Reardon for doubling the fun on my latest piece for 2 vlas and 2 vcs 💜 Video by Four/Ten Media to come!
Totally surreal to be joining this bunch, and even moreso considering that these 49 other rule-breaking composers include lifelong heroes like @laurieandersonofficial and Terry Riley, and genius friends like @missymazzoli and Yevgeniy Sharlat. In case you're late to the party like I was, #fiftyforthefuture is @kronos_quartet and @carnegiehall's joint project to commission 50 quartet pieces to be available for free to students and young artists until the end of time! YES!!!! 💙💜💚🖤🧡💛❤️
6:39am Udarata Menike Express #1016 (3rd class reserved) from Ella to Kandy with my mom. Just to clarify, Sri Lanka was her idea ❤️
Perhaps you thought you weren't going to learn anything from your Instagram feed today #ancientsrilankanurinals
Left earth for a minute last week to debut a cello & pipe organ version of Louange à l’Éternité de Jésus from Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps, complete with sustained chords a la Oraison, Messiaen's original version for ondes martenot. Possibly the best music I've ever played.
Last day for GRAMMY voting! Please consider Blueprinting--this little grassroots album has permanently altered my perception of what classical music means. 💙
Come get inspired for the new year with some Lutoslawski, Sköld, American Haiku, and my new arrangements of Bach and Messiaen featuring viola whiz Ayane Kozasa and pipe organ superstar Yuka Ishimaru 💥 January 5, 1:30 p.m. Kanagawa Kenmin Hall Yokohama, Japan
I had lunch in the future today
Happy new year, everybody ❤️
Blueprinting made NPR's Top 10!!! Also, I can die happy now: If Haydn were alive to write a string quartet today, it may sound something like Paul Wiancko's LIFT. Holy crap, NPR. Thanks.
