The all-natural beauty’s version of “there’s an app for that” is “there’s an oil for that” ✨ ✨ ✨ Dropping temps in Chicago means dry skin, hair and nails (and house plants - my poor babies are constantly parched). I got this @laurenbbeauty cuticle oil in a past @petitvour beauty box and love massaging it in at night. Is it a bit extra to have an oil just for your cuticles? Maybe. But does it make my extra brittle nails more presentable *and* keep a no-chip mani looking fresh? Absolutely. 💅🏽
🔮DESERT MAGIC🔮 For the last few weeks, I’ve been using the Prickly Pear Serum* from @westofsouthskincare and have fallen in love. Not only is this a super clean formula, but the founder, Kate, has a background in cellular biology research so you know this is backed by science for results 🔬 . Let’s break the ingredients and details down a bit, shall we? . Organic Prickly Pear is the most abundant and bioavailable source of CoQ10 (to reduce scars) and lutein to neutralize free radicals . Organic Rice Bran CO2 is full of amino acids to build up that collagen and Ferulic Acid to reduce damage and lighter dark spots . Other hydrating ingredients include Organic Pomegranate, Organic Sea Buckthorn, Organic Green Tea and more . Nothing extra added for fragrance - not even essential oils 🙌🏽 . Kate works directly with organic farmers to provide all of these yummy ingredients . The blend is created using maceration and cold infusion so no benefits are lost to high heat processing . I’ve been using this serum morning and evening (full skincare routine blog post in the works!) and my skin just soaks up all the goodness. It absorbs quickly but instantly makes my skin look and feel hydrated and nourished. It’s kept my breakouts calm even with hormonal shifts and does not leave my skin congested at all. To be honest, I have a ton of very old scarring from cystic acne, so it’s hard to see dramatic results. I feel like some of the newer scars have softened and I’ll continue to use this and see what results I get long term. All in all, I love this serum and recommend checking it out 👄
Last week Josh and I were watching “Coco” (for the second time, because we’re adults) and he admitted that he didn’t know who the character with the flower crown was. That’s right - he had never heard of Frida Kahlo. 🎨 As an art history lover, I decided to deviate from my usual subjects of natural beauty and wellness because today was the perfect day to pay homage to the self-taught Mexican painter, activist, feminist and boss babe Frida. If you don’t know her story, I highly recommend doing some reading. 🎨 La heroína del dolor, (or ‘the heroine of pain’), Frida survived horrific physical trauma which later became the subject of much of her artwork. She truly took her life’s darkness and turned it into something beautiful. 🎨 Aaaaand because we do like our beauty around here, I can’t *not* say something about those iconic brows. Like me, she appears to be a believer in brushing them upwards. But unlike me, she probably didn’t need to massage them with castor oil for growth 😏
〰️V I B E S〰️ Picked up some palo santo (aka holy wood) at Whole Foods today because I was just in that mood. Palo Santo is a native tree to Mexico and South America and the sticks are harvested from already fallen trees. When burnt, the smoke gives off my second favorite smell in the world (#1 is sage, of course). The smoke/aroma is believed to inspire creativity, reduce stress and anxiety, cleanse the air, ground you and more. It’s one of those things that creates a positivity and calm environment and brings a bit of joy to my day - it’s all about the little things right?
Have you heard of face mapping? It’s the practice of understanding what is going on in your body internally based on breakouts in certain areas of your face. It may sound a little whoo-whoo, but our bodies are so interconnected, it actually makes total, logical sense. ✨ Break out along your jawline during a certain point in your cycle? That spot’s connected to hormones. Eat something you might be intolerant to? You might get a breakout close to your mouth. It’s fascinating stuff and I can see the correlations in my own face/body. ✨ If you’d like to read more (which I recommend you should), check out the @leahlaniskincare blog post all about this. You’ll learn so much info, get product recs from a brand I love and trust all with the assistance of this little illustration I made for them. Hop on over to the link in my bio for the full read 👄👄👄
