β¨{NEW blog post!} Are you looking for more inspirational people to follow online? ππ»ππΌ I'm of the firm belief that you should surround yourself with positive people in both real life AND online. Do you agree? ππ β’ β’ β’ Because I couldn't keep the goodness all to myself, today I'm sharing some of my favorite people who've inspired me over the past few years with their positive, helpful attitude. It was really hard to narrow it down to just 13, but I managed. β’ β’ β’ β‘οΈ Click the link in my bio @therisingspoon to check out why they're so awesome. I hope you love them as much as I do! ππ β’ β’ β’ P.S. Who are your favorite positive, inspirational people to follow online? I'd love to hear!
π #TrueLove is when you skip the fancy steak, shellfish, creamy pasta, wine, and chocolate covered strawberriesπ...aaaaaand instead serve your beau's favorite thing in the world--fried boneless chicken! π #simplepleasures #cheapdate #yesimserious π So, tonight I fixed the hot & spicy fried chicken sandwich recipe from @theflavorbender and put it on toasted brioche buns with sliced dill pickles + roasted seasoned red potatoes on the side. We are SO FULL right now, but have very happy bellies! ππΌ What are you eating for Valentine's Day? π
Wishing I had a slice of this King Cake from Loretta's in the French Market right now! {mmmm} π° β’ β’ β’ I ate this slice on the afternoon of the last full day we were in New Orleans, after stopping at Central Grocery for a muffaletta sandwich and finding out they were sold out. π Eating this definitely made me feel better about missing out on the original sandwich from that place. #foodieproblems β’ β’ β’ And, I was SO happy that the King Cake was cinnamony, soft, slightly chewy and...most important...not very sweet! {score} β’ β’ β’ I haven't had a slice of this cake in years (since French class in college), so I enjoyed it thoroughly, especially since it was so fresh. πβ¨ππΌ β’ β’ β’ Have you ever tried King Cake? What was it like and where was it made? I'd love to hear!
THIS here is a legit Po-boy, y'all. ππΌ A softshell crab po-boy, to be specific. Such a simple (humble) sandwich, elevated by using fresh, good-quality ingredients like this crab. I had two bites (my beau ordered it) and it was SO yummy! ππ β’ β’ β’ I do have a few more snapshots of delicious food from my NOLA trip to share with you guys, but I'm now back and feeling thankful that I missed those random tornadoes by one day. π ππ
Total comfort food = Seafood Pistolettes from @pierremasperos in the French Quarter. Two fluffy buns filled with tons of cheesy creamy sauce, bell pepper, onion & shrimp. πππΌβ¨ Oh, and I washed it down with a cucumber cooler cocktail that was fresh and light (not too sweet - yay). I definitely had to go for some peppermint tea after this meal to help digest all the richness, but it was worth it! π
Need something to brighten your day? βοΈ Imagine biting into a warm, slightly sweet & puffy beignet, causing powdered sugar to rain onto your lap + the floor with each bite, then sipping on a delicious cafe au lait. βοΈ β’ β’ β’ You continue to sip and bite while listening to a musician play the saxophone feet away as the sun sets and you watch the crowds of people doing the same + walking by in Jackson square. This is the iconic Cafe du Monde of New Orleans. ππ»ππΌβ¨ β’ β’ β’ Totally worth the hype, although I took the insider advice and skipped the HUGE line of tourists who expected to be seated (nope - it is seat yourself) and snagged an open dirty table within less than a minute. π
Walked all the way from the French Quarter to Red Dog Diner near the Garden District for breakfast this morning because I heard/read such great things. The interior was awesome and the food didn't disappoint. β’ β’ β’ I ordered the Green Eggs & Ham breakfast sandwich + a pancake on the side (which I'll post about separately). My sandwich had country ham, scrambled eggs, and pickled greens on a soft sweet potato biscuit. It was SUPER yummy! The biscuit was my favorite part. β’ β’ β’ Oh, and it was served with slices of cantaloupe with granola and red grapes. Worth the beautiful walk, in my opinion, although the food took awhile (could be the Saturday crowd).
I'm visiting New Orleans for the first time, so get ready for some yummy food pictures, IG friends!! β’ β’ β’ π Today's lunch in the French Quarter: Charbroiled Oysters on the Half Shell from @deaniesseafood covered with melted Parmesan & a lemon butter garlic sauce. They were ahhhhmazing. THE best I've ever had, in fact, because they tasted so fresh and practically melted in my mouth. I'm used to eating chewy mussels & oysters, I guess. I think I'll be spoiled re seafood after this trip! Oh, and the beau ordered a po boy sandwich that I will be posting about separately, so keep an eye out. β’ β’ β’ Ever been to NOLA? What's your favorite place/food to eat?
#Latergram of a dinner last week: 100% Grassfed Ribeye steak cooked in my cast-iron skillet using a quick sear & bake method (get the easy tutorial on @therisingspoon by googling How to Cook The Perfect Steak in a Cast-Iron Skillet) with a baked red potato topped with butter, sea salt & garlic + a side of mushroom mustard cream sauce from @bakingmischief for topping the steak (it's so easy and super yummy). π I split the steak with my beau this time to stretch it further (since ribeye is more expensive) but wish I would have picked a bigger one since it was so good!! β’ β’ β¨ PRO-TIP: If you LOVE steak, but want to save some major $$$$ for Valentine's Day Dinner π, skip the steakhouse and make your own at home for a fraction of the price. And guess what...I promise if you try my full technique...it will taste better! Just pop over to the recipe & check out all the rave reviews. πππ
