GIVEAWAY! 🌿 We loved partnering with @xicana_mama for our reading project. To wrap it up, we’re excited to bring one lucky AZ winner a 3 month Sol Book Box subscription AND a 30 minute lifestyle photo shoot! You may or may not know that Perla is a photographer, and we loved the images of her reading to her kids so much that we want another family to have both the books and the memories. 💕 To enter: 1. Follow @solbookbox & @xicana_mama 2. Like this post 3. Tag a friend (or a few) in separate entries. The more tags the more entries! This one is for our local friends in Arizona— Phoenix, Tucson or Flagstaff— so friends tagged don’t need to be from AZ but those who enter do. And if you’re out of state, tag your AZ people to let ‘em know! Also we love you no matter where you live. 😊 Giveaway will run until Friday.
Here are a few of the places I’ve spent #diadelaindependencia 🇲🇽 since leaving Mexico: at a rather raucous party hosted by the Mexican embassy in Paris, at home in my pajamas watching “el grito” on my laptop, at a bar we didn’t know was a gay bar until we noticed the person singing El Buki was in drag, at a fancy party in downtown Phoenix with the Mayor, in a church gym (multiple occasions). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I never miss the chance to celebrate mi México lindo, because it makes me feel anchored, rooted, tied to my family even though they’re far away. And now I want to make sure my daughters know: ellas también son mexicanas. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ¡Felices fiestas patrias a toda mi gente de México, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaraguas y Guatemala! And for all of my people from somewhere else, do you celebrate your country’s Independence Day? Y se ponen súper sentimentales como yo y lloran con el mariachi? 😉 Las leo 👇🏼
“Siblings that read together love each other forever.” (Ok I made that up, but it feels true, no? 😊) Thanks @xicana_mama for sharing this super sweet sibling moment 😍
The dedication in this book says “Para los maestros incomprendidos y para sus incomprendidos alumnos.” 😂 Roberto thinks maestra Kirby is a monster, until he sees her OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL (gasp!) and realizes... maybe she’s not so bad? Love this one for teaching that most people are wonderful if you just take the time to get to know them a little better. 🍎✏️👩🏫
