Started this book and it's been a nice change from what I've been reading lately. I've heard good things about this series and am excited to dig in. It has been awhile since I've read a trilogy. Have to say I am a bit disappointed with this one. It felt long and slow paced. . My biggest complaint was the rushed ending. It pretty much ruined the book for me. . Hmm....this is was interesting one. It's one of those books that everybody loved, but...I can't say that I did. It was good and the story is heartbreaking, but I could not get behind the character Caroline. She annoyed me to no end and I started skimming most of her chapters. Getting the perspective from the German doctor, Herta, and the perspective of a young polish prisoner, Kasia, was very interesting but even then there was something missing. For such a long book I expected to get really attached and invested into their stories, like I had with The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah, but I didn't. The characters just felt flat to me. I am still going to read Lost Roses, because it's technically a prequel to this book and that sounds interesting, but I'm going to read something a little lighter in between. Phew.
