OPENING TOMORROW! We invite you to take part in our latest exhibit brought to you by the Seaside Art and History Commission, Family Connections: Fort Ord & Seaside. Join us from September 9th - October 24th for this celebration of local history at Walter Avery Gallery, located inside Seaside City Hall, at 440 Harcourt Ave. The reception, which is free and open to the public, is on September 20th, 2019 from 7:00pm until 8:30pm. This exhibit honors the daily life at Fort Ord and its strong connection to Seaside. Fort Ord was much more than a military base; it was a place where people were born, lived, got married, worked and relaxed. Through photos, personal albums, writings from soldiers, and other original material, we highlight family ties and activities on the Ord, ranging from churches to the semi-pro football team, which played the SF 49ers and LA Rams. As one of the first military bases to be integrated in 1948, Fort Ord increased the diversity of Seaside and other local communities. #walterleeaverygallery #averygallery #artgallery #seaside #93955 #fortord #art #visualart #artsandculture #history #military #militaryhistory #artevent #monterycounty #california #californiahistory #seasideartandhistory #seasideartandhistorycommission #sahc
