3 AMAZING women from #CentralUnified were honored at the 4th Annual Celebration of Women's History Month event. Shimeka Conway is a high school counselor at Central High - East and adjunct faculty at Fresno State. Her passion is evident as she works with students of all backgrounds, encouraging them to overcome any obstacles in their path. Sophie Jimenez, a 12th grader at CHS-East, has excelled in athletics and academics and began her journey in volunteerism during her middle school years while attending Rio Vista. Adela Ruacho is known as one of the friendliest crossing guards. She assists students and parents as they cross the Polk at Teague Elementary. She’s an active and valuable parent in the district. Congrats to these women for the #impact they make in the lives of others!! Many #CentralUnified students remained safely on secondary school campuses while still observing moments of silence and writing messages for the 17 victims of the Florida shooting, as well as participating in other activities to voice their concerns, opinions, and messages of hope. We're proud of our students and staff for capitalizing on the time today to meet together peacefully and set a great example for all of us. #CentralHigh students at both campuses wrote messages of support to students at Stoneman Douglas High School. Students at East Campus also released 17 balloons to remember the lives of those who were lost. Jeff Klein, Sr. shared a few words of comfort at CHS-West campus. #RioVista students gathered in the quad and wrote on a poster how to make school a better place for all. Then they held hands and curled around the quad while peacefully chanting. #ElCapitan students created a video at lunch to record student voices. #GlacierPoint students wrote messages to the students at #StonemanDouglas as well as memories of friends they've lost to violence. Many of the GP 7th grade students attended school with Janessa Ramirez as her name appeared many times. Students returned promptly to class at 10:17. #impact #NextGenerationLeaders
