When I posted my last boudoir photo to IG a few nights ago the response I got was incredible. Before I ever share a client’s boudoir photos, I ask them if they’re comfortable with it being shared. I asked her if I could post this photo of her because it’s beautiful, filled with joy, & something that so many women need to see. If there is one thing I have learned about women, it’s that we struggle with the skin we are in, myself included. We often feel guilty & not worthy of treating ourselves & we keep telling ourselves that “when” we reach a certain point/weight/milestone, then we will be enough. Tonight as I sit here & edit some of the boudoir sessions I've taken over the last few weeks, I am fascinated by the beauty that is so individualized, so imperfectly perfect. Some of these beautiful women booked these sessions to celebrate some major milestones, i.e. 48 yrs of living, 10 yrs of marriage, 5 kids & a new acceptance of the skin that has gotten them through all of the amazing things life has thrown their way. Some brought in his favorite game jersey, a flannel that he loves, his hat, & other pieces that told their story. It’s funny how we fixate on our flaws: the dimples in our thighs, the extra skin on our arms, the extra chin that happens when we smile…I’m sure guilty of it, chances are, you are too. As I chatted with many of the women whose photos I took, I fell in love with their train of thought, many of their sessions weren't to sexualize their body or prove they are sexy, it was to feel confident in their own skin, to remember this stage of their lives where they are simply happy, to have keepsakes to share with their family, to inspire their daughters to embrace the body they have been given, to make a proclamation that you might never lose those last 10lbs or have the perfect abs & that's okay. You are worthy of beautiful photographs, your body is perfect just the way it is, stop waiting for the perfect circumstances, stop promising yourself “someday” & start remembering that worth isn’t tied up in a dress size or number on a scale. I’m begging you, love the skin you’re in. What a beautiful testament to life, love & the pursuit of true happiness!
