At 13 years old, I met this man named David. A man my Mum fell in love with, who played catch ⚾️ with me, shot 🏀 hoops with me, and became my friend. . I was protective you know, I didn’t make it easy for him early on, it was just my Mum and me for over 10 years. David showed up consistently when I needed him, started coaching my little league team, and started showing me a great example of what it looked like as a man to wake up early and go to work, he never took a sick day and if I tried to fake a sick day from school, he’d say, “Pull your bootstraps up and be a man.” . I read recently from a friends Dad, “You don’t have to be a biological father to be a REAL DAD.” Thanks for this Joe O, couldn’t agree more. . Over the years, David became my Dad, I like to call him Pops...it just feels right and he likes it. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without him. From challenging me by his example to wake up early, I mean, 3am early, to not saying what I always want to hear, but saying what I need to hear, to always being there when I need him, to increasing my brain capacity by how many books 📚 the man reads, and all the intellectual conversation we’ve had, I have so much love and respect for you Pops. . We have many more adventures planned, as Pops turns 60 soon and enters a new season of his life, enjoying more time off than on #retirementrumors ,like the one featured here, kayaking with our pups, teaching me guitar, the patience required here let me tell you 😂, and exploring the great outdoors. . During a recent keynote, I shared a quote by him, “Who are you going to be today.” It’s something I think about daily that motivates me to be better. As I get older, I appreciate more and more of my Dads lessons. . This is the statement that received the most feedback so I wanted to share it with you. . After the audience heard, Do you realize you are a champion in their eyes? There was a shift in the room, a leaning in deeper, there was some Ooh’s and Ahh’s...a few tears...I knew they got where I was going...it was time to make it personal and land the plane. . We then took 5 minutes to workshop this, get clear, and list who was our “they”.....in who’s eyes are we a champion for? Your breath travels with you wherever you go. #findyourcenter . Sunshine, sand between the toes, and ocean breeze is how I spent my first day back in Sydney. . On the previous day of flying I organized stretch & walking breaks around the @virginaustralia plane, either move it or lose it, had a few join me on these breaks, it was awesome 👏🏽. . After getting off a 24 hour flight it’s easy to be lazy, but we are meant to move, so off to the beach, Curl Curl to be exact, pictured here. Walking the beach because I delight in movement. . The very next day, I spoke at CBA (Commonwealth Bank of Australia) about Quality Sleep & Rest. A talk I wouldn’t have had the energy for unless Movement was a priority in my life. I trained hard for 27 minutes on the morning of. . Yesterday, I left the house at 6am to spend my morning with my mentor, and if anyone knows Robert Fergusson, you know, not to yawn and only bring your A game. I made time to move before I left the house so I would maximize my experience with Robert. . Lastly, we arrive to this morning. This rainy and cold-ish morning and the point of this post. My speaking agent, Agent K and I jogged to the beach in the pouring rain, hung up a new @nba fresh net, because nothing is like the sound of a swish and shot hoops. We moved and moved well. . Movement is my normal but I know it’s not most peoples. That led me to thinking why 🤔. My overarching answer is simply discipline. . My discipline comes from multiple mentors and hero’s, my Mum, My Pops, Uncle Joe, Dr. Jeffrey Bland, Todd Durkin, Marco Borges, Robert Fergusson to name a few. They all helped me build the muscle of discipline. . I’m going to start posting more about discipline as I’m certain it’s going to help make a difference. .
