I try to remember that the job - as well as the plight, and the unexpected joy - of the artist is to embrace uncertainty, to be sharped and honed by it. To be birthed by it. Each time we come to the end of a piece of work, we have failed as we have lept - spectacularly, brazenly, into the unknown. - Debbie Millman • • • #dowhatyoulovelovewhatyoudo #pnw #momentsonmountains #theeverygirl #communityovercompetition #risingtidesociety #makewavesmonday #realsimple #liveauthentic #quotes #inspiration
Big things are going down in the Kellie Arndt studio! I'm working on a project that's hilariously ambitious - between toting this preggo belly around in a pineapple tee and eating mangos and pickled herring like nobody's business, I'm completely rebranding my clothing label and preparing to release the new S/S '16 collection. I am so excited to show you what I've been working on, and it's just a few more weeks till launch day! Gorgeous (& suuuper comfy) stretchy fabrics, ethereal tulle, sweeping hems, adventure, and a lot of forest flair will be involved 🌿
On those days where your brain is on overload from the millions of dreams and plans on your to-do list and, yes, the laundry still waiting to get folded from over the weekend. Standing here on Tunnels Beach (yep, the one of Bethany Hamilton fame) last year with my brand new husband was a similar experience. The most inspiring, gorgeous vista I'd ever seen in my life paired with an unsettling terror springing from the capriciousness and power of the ocean (my mom grew up on the ocean running a salmon boat, but somehow I missed the seafaring gene). No matter how scary your dream is, it's beautiful and it is so worth the adventure! 🙌🏻 I'm working on my list today and it includes ordering in material for new dress orders, working my way through some SkillShare classes, planning the week's menu, and a prenatal appointment. Then off to Karate to help our adorable kids kick it up in the junior class! What's on the top of your get-the-dream-done list?
This month we celebrated our first anniversary and my first Mother's Day 23 weeks pregnant. The joy of carrying this miracle, this soul being knitted in my womb, this still-so-tiny life that made me a mother is indescribable. Surreal, but as little cumin (our cute human!) is learning to kick, punch and backflip more every day, less so. Feeling that precious baby so near to me, moving and growing and yet so mysteriously hidden, and knowing that this was planned before the foundations of the world make the tears flow in sheer gratitude at God's love and power. The further along this journey, the more I'm enlightened to the tremendous sacrifice, privilege, weight, joy, sorrow, and calling it is to be a mom. All that my mother and all the mothers that have gone before have contributed to shaping the world is thrown into perspective like never before. I'm humbled by the gift of my marriage and our tiny family blossoming. So imperfectly perfect. The choices we're faced with every day together - to love harder, forgive more fully, work more purposely, seek Christ more passionately - is the greatest adventure. A new blog post is up! I woke up this morning remembering our honeymoon and the first time I ever stood in the warm sea, and the day we took this picture last year on Tunnels beach. I grew up back and forth between north Idaho and the northern Cali/Oregon coast, where my earliest beach memories include sea kelp bullwhips, climbing on cold, slippery rocks to reach the tidepools, and magical starfish (plus saltwater taffy, can I get an amen?), but never swimming. Kauai was so much more than I ever imagined. Snorkeling, hot sand, soft breezes and that magical, ever present tropical scent was sensory overload to my little mountain bound self. Getting to experience it all with my favorite person in the world was definitely the perfect start for the the greatest adventure. Has anyone else been to Kauai? We're totally going back someday and the Na Pali coast hike is so happening! #romanticandadventurous #honeymoon #tb #thatsdarling #darlingweekend #kauai #hawaii #islandlife #aloha #travel
Isn't there something about muffins that feels ultimately homemakerish? When I feel like I'm running low on domestic goddess morale, it's my muffin pans that always know just what to say. #banannamuffins #ginger #rustic #onthetable #mealideas #foodphotography #foodstyling #feedfeed #f52grams #livefolk #theartofslowliving #domesticgoddess
That's no moon... Celebrating Star Wars Day in major style with my #darlingbump. Just one year ago Christopher and I were sitting on a Hawaii-bound airliner watching #theempirestrikesback on my laptop in commemoration as brand spanking newlyweds... And the saga continues. May the Fourth be with you! #starwarsday #maythefourthbewithyou
Hey, you. What are you doing with this one precious life? Are you holding back on your dreams because they scare you (a lot)? I know I'm guilty of this. We all are. And never trying seems so much safer than failing big. But it's a lie. Truth: I'm a perfectionist and I believe in chasing dreams, hard. Last week that looked like waking up late from baby-growing exhaustion, mandatory morning snuggles and planning out the week with my husband, trying to get to a million household and business tasks, and by noon actually standing in the chiropractors office - to my horror - in my slippers (with both big toes poking through). Thank goodness for freshly painted nails to give a girl a shred of dignity! The inevitable fact is no matter how hard you hustle, you're going to fail one way or another. I chose to embrace that day's victories instead, and Christopher and I laughed so hard about those slippers afterward. We get to do life together and that's what really matters to us. Yep, I never get it all done. My creative vision of the last five years as a blogger, designer, seamstress, and Etsy shop owner has transitioned to marriage working along my husband full time in our Karate school as well, and now preparing to dive into the most life-changing, exhausting, challenging and beautiful job I'll ever take on: Motherhood. I discovered darling @jennakutcher here on IG last fall, and her story of working both hard and smart inspired me to no end. She's a powerhouse of insight, encouragement, inspiration and talent. Last month she released an incredible course for creative dreamers, doers, and entrepreneurs, geared specifically for photographers - and I felt the call like a battle cry to pursue the calling I've always dreamed about but was too afraid to pursue. So, I'm over here cheering you on to conquer your fears and watch the full, crazy beautiful plan God has for you unfolding. For me, that looks like releasing the first new collection for my clothing label in 3 years, training Karate, and now diving into a new career as a photographer five months pregnant with my amazing husband at my side, all from the kitchen table. My heart is full.
I promise to love you without reservation. I promise to honor and respect you, support you in our life's work, and nurture you with the loving atmosphere of our home. I promise to comfort you, grow old with you in mind and spirit, always be open and honest with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live. Today marks one year from the beautiful May day that we pledged our vows. Those vows that are being lived day in and day out. And I thought I loved you then. 📷:Libby's Lens
Hey, lovely! My name is Kellie - I’m a clothing designer, maker, and photographer who thrives on capturing real and romantic couples who are as in love with adventure as I am. I am the wife of my beloved, a believer, an unashamed hoarder of old books and yoga pants, and the expectant mom of a miraculous tiny human we can’t wait to meet this summer. I am a blogger, a professional napper, a huge fan of eclectic music (think french accordions one minute and Daughtry the next), and I am incredibly passionate about choosing joy every day. My husband and I run a Karate school together, dance in the kitchen (mostly swing and bad tango), and are basically inseparable. We believe in loving fiercely, living our life to the fullest, and pursuing the opportunities we have to make a difference in the world through our passions. I chase dreams, hard. I’m in this to tell stories through my work of the empowering grace of God and the beauty of true love. Adventure, aspiration, and unique beauty are the birthright of all, and with both my clothing label and my photography, I strive to capture that spirit and allow you to experience it for yourself. So, what's your story? I just wanted to introduce myself for all you new followers (hi there!) and throw my mission statement out there. I have a few exciting new projects in store and I can't wait to continue this journey with you!
The first time I saw this ring we were standing under a lamppost in the middle of a blizzard, the love of my life was down on one knee, and I had three inches of ice on my head from a long walk at night through our sleeping city. The joy and euphoria and yes, terror (what in the heck did we just do?!?) of that Hallmark moment turned into nothing but radiant love and assurance the second time he slipped it on my finger on our wedding day. It's been through sunny canoeing trips, bread kneading and dishwashing, and non-glamorous mornings with crazy bed head and morning breath kisses. It's been through the best and hardest times we've faced together, a reminder of eternal devotion and selfless love that doesn't always look magazine perfect - and of the fact that my husband has amaaazing good taste and that it takes a little more than hypothermia and sub-zero temps to keep us from enjoying the adventure 😎 ❄️🌿💍🌿 📷:Libby's Lens #romanticandadventurous #howheasked #beating50percent #theAteamadventures #outdoorwedding
Less that a week to our anniversary! Looking back on the last year, our wonderful, crazy, challenging and beautiful first year together, I don't see the picture perfect things - perfectly edited photos, tear-jerking captions to momentous moments in our life duly posted and shared and liked. Instead I see incredible beauty in the imperfect, non documented things; the love and skill of the dear friend that went into making this gorgeous cake, the friends and family behind the scenes making everything happen sans glamour on our wedding day. I see the moments my husband and I spent sitting at our little breakfast table, pouring over a new business idea over watermelon and eggs or (keeping it real) watching Studio C in bed. I see the tear filled nights struggling with overwhelming grief for hurting friends and family and look at my husband in wonderment at his patience and selfless comforting as he holds me tight, prays for our burdens. Because the most beautiful thing of all is that everything is shared now. Whether it's a chocolate bar or the book I'm reading or the article he loved or a mountain to face, it's ours. Facing everything life has to offer side by side, glamorous or not, in sickness and in health, even without picture perfect Instagram moments, is my favorite and there's nowhere I'd rather be. #momentsoverthings #romanticandadventurous #beating50percent #outdoorwedding 📷: Libby's Lens Photography
Celebrating the halfway mark to meeting our precious little cumin (that's cute human) today. My bump is finally bonafide and past the awkward stage (the looks-like-I-ate-too-much one)! I made a ridiculously comfy dress that I plan to live in the next few months, and have been baking and eating crazy amounts of gingerbread, and baby and I passed our grueling green belt test and get to learn some sweet new stuff at Karate. Also, holy cow my husband is incredible and I love him so. He takes good pictures too 😏
Made a blackberry puff pancake inspired by @ericaleaphotos' mouthwatering concoction. We've been getting fresh milk from a local farm and the Tuesday cream skimming has become a beloved ritual. Whipped, lightly sugared, Spring sun streaming in - midweek breakfast with my honey was 👌 Who has a ridiculously easy fancy breakfast recipe they love to make? Share below!
