Let me tell you a story... Five years ago i photographed this beautiful girl in New York. I'd never met her before, she was the daughter of a friend who happily stepped in so I could fulfil my bucket list fantasy of shooting in one of my favourite cities on earth. It was HOT and I mean super, oppressively hot. It was August and I now know why locals head out of the city in the summer months. It's not to be repeated. Anyway. This young girl is stunning isn't she? There's no doubt about it but she was shy. I told her she was beautiful but she said she didn't think she was. She opened up to me during the shoot, explaining how she was bullied in school for being ugly. Her self confidence had been ripped from her little 12 year old soul and it was heartbreaking to hear. It still makes me sad. I returned to the UK with a camera bursting with tons of amazing images to edit. I picked my favourites (it was hard!) and sent the images to her Mum as a massive thank you. Her response made me cry. When viewing the finished photos, the girl said to her mum that she really DID look beautiful in the photos. The photos had given her a massive boost in her confidence. She no longer saw herself through the eyes of the hate filled bullies at school. She could see what everyone else did - a beautiful young woman with the world at her feet. I will never forget this shoot. It made me proud that a simple photograph could have such a powerful effect. I'm now mindful of it in every shoot I do. You see, good photography is not just about taking pretty pics. It's not just about recording a likeness. It can be much more than that if you want it to be. And I want it to be.

Been talking lots about some of my favourite locations over on my Facebook page this week. Today I headed to one of my top ten places to shoot in South Wales. Just a quick phone snap before we headed back to the car after a long, hot and sweaty day at the beach. Bliss. 😍

So it looks like Mr. Drakeford is planning to end the 5 mile travel restrictions on 6th July, all being well. Hoorah! That means I'll be 100% back and doing what I love in no time at all. I've obviously had to put some COVID-19 guidance in place to make sure all of my clients are kept as safe as possible during our outdoor photo sessions. Want to find out what a socially distanced family photo shoot will be like? I've got it covered over on the website. 😍
Getting my ducks in a row 🦆 🦆 🦆. Website’s had a pretty refresh. Why not take a look? Link in bio.
When I present my clients with their finished images for the very first time I hold my breath and wait with nervous anticipation. I want to see 'that' look in their eyes, a deep sigh, a gentle smile and sometimes even happy tears. The hair stands up on the back of my neck and It's then I know that I've got it right. For them. It happens every time. I can't record these memories at the moment and I'm finding it hard. I miss my fix. So, for now I'll wait for another few weeks, coiled like a tightly wound spring. Knowing that the images I capture, when I can, will be laced with even more emotion. Feelings of a newfound unity, freedom and of love. A treasured keepsake to mark what you have all achieved during these tough times. Something to look at everyday and always remember. Because we should never forget the good that has come out of our struggles. There's always good, no matter what.
During lockdown I’ve found it hard to concentrate. Hands up if you feel the same 🙋🏻♀️. Homeschooling, constant feeding of the tribe, picking up after everyone and if I’m honest... the distraction of the sunny weather and a much tidier garden to sit in to enjoy it! I’ve not been idle though. Just putting the finishing touches to a new web design for @morganjewellery (launching very soon!!!!) and now thought it was about time mine got a bit of TLC too. Time to pull my finger out, put my work head on and get my ducks in a row 🦆 🦆 🦆 ready for July when (fingers crossed) I can get back out there with you lovely bunch. Ooooh, hang on... the sun’s just come out again! ☀️ 🤦🏻♀️
