I picked up a keyboard for @claire_madeline to use in her apartment. I think it will get a lot of use through these isolation days! She picked it up tonight and we were able to hear a few songs. 🎵 🎶 🎼 (I'm having fun with the adobe draw app.)
My phone has a stylus and I've piddled around with the adobe draw app a couple of times. Trouble is I don't know how to draw. But I can photograph people and scenes. And I can trace. So I photographed my youngest daughter yesterday and this morning fiddled around in the app again. I kept it simple with one brush and doubt I could do much more. But it's good for my brain! This extra home time seems like a good time to learn a little more about the technology at our fingertips.
My husband just brought in the mail! My 90 something gardening friend just surprised me! ❤❤ We live in different communities so I never see her except at fair time or for a garden visit. This just almost makes me cry. This strange time in the world focuses a spotlight on this kind of simple living and kind gesture. #pandemicpost #happymail
Yeast project today...recipe is on my blog. This one was almost all Nora's project. I'd highly recommend it! #baking #stayhome #yeast #yeastrecipe #isolationbaking
Our first #sourdough loaf from the starter we, um started, 5 days ago. Clearly, needed more rising time, but I didnt want to be up in the middle of the night baking bread. 🙃 The flavor is pretty decent. Probably a little chewy-ier than it should be.... So tonight we'll make some soup for dinner to dip it in! #sourdoughbread #learningcurve #stayhome #levain
@soundstripemusic continues with their #keepcreatingchallenge and today, the challenge was to create something 3d. My entry is titled Self Isolation with a Moscow Mule . (This was fun!) #wiresculpture #stayathome #stayhome #selfisolation #keepcreating #ilovewire
New blog post up! jillruth.com I made @annwoods wire doll bed. 💛 #annwoodpattern #annwoodhandmade #handmade #madebyhand
Meet Quiggy. Quarantine, Under Isolation, Girls Grow Yeast. Flour, water, and a few chopped grapes. (See stories) We are growing our own Levain, or sourdough starter! Since there is a shortage of yeast, this seemed like the time to finally try this! I'd been planning to long before this quarantine. Now it became a homeschool project. Truly it's so interesting once you begin to read about it. We will keep you posted on how it grows. Sounds like bare minimum, it will be four days until it's ready to use. So if you want to grow some too, get started! I've read recipes in my other cookbooks and they all called for yeast in the starter. The bread books we turned to say to not use yeast in the starter. Just let the wild yeast grow so that's what we are doing. We decided to name it since its alive and growing! #wildyeast #levain #sourdough #sourdoughstarter #baking
Today #quarantineyeastbaking My Mom's Golden Crescent recipe in her handwriting. Audrey pretty much did these solo with just some interpretation of the recipe because my Mom was not one for details. 😊 Everything takes so long to rise, so still not sure if we have the water temperature right. She uses a thermometer and puts it at 120 degrees. Then we've been putting the dough upstairs where its warmer to rise. No one has tasted these yet and we will put a dozen in the freezer. (I think) 😉 We got a letter today that school will be closed until the end of April. I guess I'm not surprised, but still I think I was holding out hope they could return sooner. We need to hit some math! Because How many rolls are left from two dozen after your Mom eats five? story problems are a little too easy for them and too dangerous for me!
Today's yeast recipe: Runzas! I love this dough and we need to think of other fillings for it too. #runzas #quarantineyeastbaking #baking #dinner
💚💚💚 I didn't know how wonderful the inside of cattails are in the spring! It's like corrugated cardboard! Or I should say corrugated cardboard is like the inside of cattails. 🙃
Day 6? of yeast. Today, the girls wanted to try just plain white bread. Most of the recipes have been mostly Audrey making them with me advising. It's like the blind leading the innocent. Maybe by the end of this quarantine we will have learned a thing or two. #quarantineyeastbaking
Yesterdays yeast project didn't get baked until this morning as it was so very slow to rise. It's a super hearty rye recipe and my son advised me that is why it was so slow. My two youngest aren't a fan of this because of the rye, but I kind of like it. Butter and a slice of cheese and it's good. The recipe is called Finnish Rye Bread and it's from a Nigella Lawson cookbook called How to Be. Domestic Goddess gifted to me years ago from @theresarobertson771 . 😂😂 #quarantineyeastbaking
Since I posted the picture of @claire_madeline the other day in her new to her top, I've been thinking how fun this would be, to show you future Claire. 😊 Because it's so relevant to our time. This girl is majoring in microbiology because she hopes to someday be a virologist. This was her goal long before COVID 19 reared its ugly head. She may be in place to help when the next scary out break happens! She thinks viruses are fascinating. Is there an emoji to follow that sentence?! So here's to the scientists in the world! May God lead them!
@soundstripemusic is hosting a #keepcreatingchallenge through this difficult time. The Day 1 challenge was to paint or color a picture in your own voice even if you aren't a painter. Well I'm not a painter...but this feels like me. Now I have to go clean up paint spatters in my studio!
