Enjoyed today's London meetings with editors at publishers of many of my favourite books: William Heinemann, Harvill & Secker, Jonathan Cape. *My skirt matches the Penguin logo but the pattern is cats, not penguins.🐧🐈
The 1st time I met this amazing woman, @zanibmian , was back in June after I started representing her. Today was to celebrate the deal with a major UK children's publisher that will be announced very soon!👏🌟 #lovebeingaliteraryagent
My first visit to the recently renovated Mercado Sant Antoni and loved how they preserved the ancient wall underneath it. The food market was closed but enjoyed browsing in the Sunday book market, and finding a 1979 magazine with a photo essay of eternally beautiful #jeanseberg 💔 #sundayafternoon #barcelona
So proud of @amirahmadiarian for writing such a brave + beautiful essay, and for having it published in @guernicamag ! The essay includes drawings Amir made at age 6-7 during the Iran - Iraq war and it is one of the most original and powerful testimonies I have ever read about the lifelong impact of war or PTSD experienced during childhood. It is also a heartfelt, must-read warning to those of us fortunate enough to have never had to live through war. 👏👇 https://www.guernicamag.com/fragments-from-a-war-torn-childhood/👈 Any literary fiction editors out there: look out for the submission of Amir Ahmadi Arian's first novel (in English) soon this autumn.
Great to be at the biggest Spanish publishing party of the year, when we reconnect after the summer: XII Premi RBA de Novela Policiaca, this time won by Walter Mosley. Loved his speech about the essential role of crime writers around the world in pursuing the two most important elements of human life: truth and justice: Those who collect the wages of sin are answerable to our stories which detail their crimes.
Standing with migrants in #BARCELONA (5/9) filling the street in front of the EU Delegation building after 116 Moroccans were pushed back over the wall in Ceuta. To the EU we say #nadieesilegal #papelesparatodos #todossomosmigrantes ! To the US we say #EndFamilyDetention #FamiliesBelongTogether #nobannowall #EndZeroTolerance ! And everywhere we say RESPECT #humanrights ! This also happens to be the theme of Frankfurt Book Fair 2018 #fbm18 #onthesamepage
Holidays are over. Back to working life! Thank you @barcelonametropolitan for featuring me in A Day in the Life column for August. 👇https://www.barcelona-metropolitan.com/living/business/a-day-in-the-life-jessica-craig/👈 I know some Americans in Barcelona would rather not think about what is happening back in the US. And, I know some people in publishing think we should keep work separate from politics. But, I believe we are now living in a time when every one of us needs to decide what kind of world we want to live in, what kind of world we want for the next generation, and what each of us can do to make a difference. In a city as international as Barcelona, linked to the US through education, business and tourism, there is a lot we can do here to raise awareness and to make a positive impact. In my work as a literary agent of multicultural authors, many of whom are immigrants, I see my role as a champion of their voices as inextricably linked to my role as an activist for human rights.
Loved opening this package received during August holidays - first time a novel by one of my authors (@chigozieobioma ) has been adapted + published as a play (@nickhernbooks ). And #TheFishermen (script by Gbolahan Obisesan @obiscoco, starring Michael Ajao as Ben and Valentine Olukoga as Obembe) won the @thestageuk Edinburgh Award at @edfringe 2018! In September it tours England and I'm excited to see it in London @arcolatheatre (17-22 Sept) after first loving it when it opened in Manchester @homemcr @nptheatre 👏👏
End of perfect two weeks with this beach a short, enchanting walk from campsite. #lastdayofholidays #asturias

Two of the most important and most adored men in my life met for the first time in Manchester to do a photo shoot + see #TheFishermen @homemcr . This was one of the only chances @jason_m_keith has given me to use his 📷😘
So much joy + growth has been shared on this journey with @chigozieobioma + #TheFishermen ! And seeing his powerful debut novel brilliantly reborn as a play in Manchester @homemcr @nptheatre @obiscoco was one of the most beautiful experiences of my career. Now you can see it in Edinburgh @edfringe in this month of August and then for one week in London @arcolatheatre (Sept 18-22)! 🤗💥🎟️ @littlebrown @pushkin_press @sharpcorners @judyclain @gray.318 @jason_m_keith #booklovers #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #authorsofinstagram #africanwriters
The Mersey, Liverpool, a waterway that has borne so much troubling history, yet an intriguing place to visit.
Also in Liverpool was surprised + fascinated by Nigerian Monarchs by #GeorgeOsodi + Pakistani libraries by @madihaaijaz . @openeyegallery #liverpoolbiennial
Messages left outside Museum of Slavery, Liverpool.
Museum of Slavery, Liverpool. What does #Liverpool make you think of? Football, The Beatles...socialism, the Titanic, the Lusitania, Irish immigration during the Potato Famine...I didn't know until I went there that before all of the above, Liverpool was the center of the transatlantic slave trade. #olaudahequiano
Manchester has two of the most beautiful public libraries I have ever seen: Central Library + @TheJohnRylands (established by the cotton manufacturer's widow Enriqueta Augustina Rylands in 1900) ! #booklovers #literarylife #librariesofinstagram
In addition to the magic of seeing Chigozie Obioma + #TheFishermen (as a play), I loved my first face-to-face meeting with my wonderful #Manchester author, Diana Anyakwo! Excited to be talking to editors about her debut manuscript, The Other Side of the Sun, in September! #lovebeingaliteraryagent #literarylife
@chigozieobioma signing copies of #TheFishermen for the audience who saw his novel as a play @homemcr in Manchester on 26 July.😍 #authorsofinstagram #booklovers #bookstagram #booksofinstagram
The rising #nigerian stars who made #TheFishermen a triumph of storytelling first as a novel (@chigozieobioma ) + now as a play: Gbolahan Obisesan @obiscoco , Michael Ajao (Ben) + Valentine Olukoga (Obembe). 👏🙌🏾🙌🏼💜🌟🌟🌟🌟
This was the most moving + thrilling + beautiful night of theatre I've ever experienced: seeing #TheFishermen with @chigozieobioma as a play in Manchester @Homemcr @nptheatre . The journey we have both been on with this novel has been epic + it continues to surprise + delight me and new passionate readers even 4 years after the book was first published. Seeing it reborn on the stage (w/script by Gbolahan Obisesan @obiscoco + astonishing acting by Michael Ajoa + Valentine Olukoga) is an affirmation of the redemptive, regenerative power of storytelling.💜🙌🏾🙌🏼💥 #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #booklovers
Jack McNamara, director of #TheFishermen and Artistic Director of New Perspectives @nptheatre interviewed @chigozieobioma during a Facebook Live Q&A in Manchester @homemcr I will never forget the first time I met Jack about 2 years ago and he told me he wanted to adapt Chigozie's multilayered novel into a play with only the two youngest brothers playing all of the other characters. Somehow I believed he could he could do it and he has done it brilliantly! 👏💥
@chigozieobioma in Manchester to see his debut #TheFishermen as a play @homemcr , received from his UK editor, Ailah Ahmed, a beautiful bound proof of his brilliant second novel #AnOrchestraofMinorities. Coming in January 2019 from @littlebrown 👏💜 #authorsofinstagram #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #booklovers #africanwriters
First meeting of @chigozieobioma with his German publisher, Thomas Tebbe/Piper Verlag @piperverlag who flew over to Manchester for this special occasion. Chigozie's second novel, #AnOrchestraofMinorities, will be published in Germany in September 2019! 👏🤗
In Manchester, UK: #TheFishermen by @chigozieobioma is now a brilliant play @nptheatre @homemcr ! They even have a poster inside the elevator. Next it goes to @edfringe for August!
