In tonight’s Applied Sustainability class the students are kicking off their community based projects in partnership with @peancorg Green Business Network. Students meet with project partners from @caminobakery and @rockboxbouldering to talk business model canvases and the sustainability issues that each organization faces. Using human centered design the students will develop unique solutions around sustainability to create meaningful impact for local businesses and our community. #wfugrad #wfu #sustainability #businessmodelcanvas #humancentereddesign #designthinking #shoplocal

Yesterday Hadley Twiddy, owner of @coastalexplorations and #obx native, invited us to the newly opened @corollavillageinn to hear about what she loves about calling Corolla, NC home and what it’s like running a business in a dynamic tourism economy. We also sat down with Buddy Ponton, a long time local and retired commercial fisherman, to hear his story about living on the Outer Banks and surviving the Ash Wednesday storm of 1962. Perspectives like these paint the picture of why the Outer Banks is such a special place. Thank you for sharing with us! #obx #beachvacation #twiddyobx #outerbanks #wfu #wakeforestuniversity

Thank you @twiddyobx and Edward Ponton for the awesome tour of Corova! We loved seeing the wild horses and hearing the story of Wash Woods Coast Guard Station and it’s restoration by the Twiddy’s in 1988. We couldn’t have asked for more perfect weather! #obx #twiddyobx #outerbanks #beachvacation #restoration #wfu #wakeforestuniversity

Professor Becky Dickson leading a group of our students on our travel course to the Outer Banks. Yesterday we got to see first hand the pocosin restoration work that US Fish and Wildlife and The Nature Conservancy are doing at Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge. Did you know that pocosin (an Algonquian word meaning “swamp on a hill”) cover 3% of the world’s land area but contain 2x’s the amount of carbon compared to all forest biomass worldwide?! #obx #wfu #carbonsequestration #sustainability #sustainablegrad #wakeforestuniversity
