Somebody recently told me that India may not give you exactly what you want but will always give you what you need. When I left for India, I was running away from a career setback and an uncertain future. What I found amongst the beauty, spirituality and devotion of India was humbling perspective, a reminder of how truly fortunate I am and how happiness comes from within. I needed to be reminded of what really matters in this life—love, friendship, health, family, happiness and experience—and to know that no matter what comes next, I am abundantly wealthy in love ❤️ The rest, as they say, will work itself out.
I remember being a kid at Disney and taking that terribly annoying “It’s a small world, after all” boat ride. The ride—which was created for the 1964 World’s Fair—had guests slowly take a boat past mechanical children from all over the world singing the repetitive “it’s a small world” song. The point of the ride was to show, in one quick boat trip, how varied and diverse humanity can be. Children from Russia to Botswana were all united in song, proving that this big planet of ours didn’t need to separate us emotionally. This is what a boat ride in Varanasi is like—minus the God awful song—the boat moves past a never-ending display of human emotion like that Disney ride sailed past multicultural children. Lost among the sun soaked temples of Khajuraho with brilliant (and racy carvings) of Kama Sutra adorning its walls. Inside one of the temples sits a statue of Lord Vishnu. People slowly circle the deity offering up a single wish for consideration. Be it health or success, love or the ability to conquer fear, it’s beautiful to watch people walk slowly in the shadows, bonded by their dreams and devotion ✨ #incredibleindia #indiablogtrain
Flags flapping high on the streets of Jaipur. An impromptu parade and color galore. Music plays loudly as people walk on, in a brilliant display of energy and love 🇮🇳❤️ #incredibleindia #indiablogtrain
For the past week I have traveled around India—from Delhi to Varanasi and back—aboard the majestic Maharaja Express. The romance of the rails called to me with leisurely meals spent watching the India countryside roll by as we made our way to a new city each day. Thank you @maharajas_express for this once-in-a-lifetime journey! 🇮🇳❤️ #indiablogtrain #incredibleindia
Every now and then I have to pinch myself to know it’s not a dream. That after years of being intrigued and mystified by India, I am finally here. #incredibleindia #indiablogtrain
