Despite the misconceptions about Cinco De Mayo being Mexico's independence day, this holiday actually commemorates Mexico's victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War (1861-1867). Cinco De Mayo is mainly celebrated in the state where this battle took place, Puebla. It is not widely celebrated in Mexico. However, in the United States, Cinco De Mayo is celebrated by many Mexican Americans as a celebration of Mexican culture. Want to learn more about this holiday and more about Mexico? Stop by the Mills and check out our resources! #ExploreTheWorldHere
