“I have one foot in winter and one in spring. One foot with the living, and one with the dead.” ••• I just finished CITY OF GHOSTS by Victoria Schwab, a middle-grade paranormal fantasy, and it was such a good read. It follows a girl named Cassidy Blake, who almost drowned in a river but was saved by a ghost—and now she can see those who roam the “in-between.” Interestingly enough, her parents write stories all about ghosts and are given the chance to film a documentary TV show. First stop? Edinburgh, a city packed with paranormal activity and spookiness. ••• I don’t want to give anything else away so I’ll leave it at that, but just know that it was so much fun to read. I’ve never been to Scotland but Victoria Schwab captured the atmosphere so well. It was also just the right amount of creepy for this scaredy-cat, and perfect for October. This was my first Victoria/V.E. Schwab book but definitely not last 👻 ••• #amreadsbooks
I love Octobers + the start of a new month, so today felt like winning double Jeopardy 😂 ••• This morning I tried to unpack the first chapter of Hebrews (I’m reading it along with the rest of my @shereadstruth sistas!) and while I have so much more to learn, I’m thankful that God has grown in me a desire to study Scripture. There are some days that I feel as if I have no time to do it, but I think I’m just making an excuse. If I wanted to do something, I’d make it happen no matter what. ••• Today’s takeaway = Jesus Christ is much more superior than angels, who were messengers sent by God. (I think the community of Hebrew people this letter was written to viewed angels as magnificent beings, but didn’t know just how great Jesus is? It’s hard for me to see the comparison because I have never encountered an angel, but I’ve read how afraid and awestruck people were. And I’d probably faint if I saw one myself. I hope I don’t faint when I see Jesus one day though.) ••• Hebrews 1:3-4 // “He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. After making purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much superior to angels as the name he has inherited is more excellent than theirs.” ••• #amintheword

I do admit it's a bit confusing in the beginning, but it's so worth it when you reach the end of the first volume. Keep at it if you're a fan of sci-fi! 🗞 ••• Can we also talk about the amazing art that @cliffchiang does? This + Wonder Woman? EASILY MY FAVORITE.
