Aloha Kamanu ‘ohana, If you didn't get our email update last week, we wanted to let you all that we're back in full operation! Thank you all so much for your patience and your generous support over the last few months. Some updates we wanted to note: -To comply with social distancing requirements, we will no longer allow walk-ins to our shop. If you're picking up a canoe, a retail purchase, or need to see us in person, you can book an appointment online. - We're offering 25% off all t-shirts, tights, sweatshirts, rack pads, leashes, and straps sold via our online store through the end of May or while supplies last. - Due to the gap in production, the waitlist for a custom canoe may be up to five months. - We are continuing to finish non-custom stock canoes for sale. To get early notification on availability, or to guarantee a spot on the waitlist, put in a deposit for a custom canoe. Otherwise, check our online store periodically. - The waitlist for a new paddle is three months. - We continue to work on new 'Elepaio OC-6 for those who pre-order one, though no ETA is yet available. - We're hiring! If you know anyone in need of a job, please have them send their cover letter and resume to
You can view our job posting on our website. No experience necessary, but must have a passion for building things. - Other than warranty repairs, we will not be accepting any repairs until we can get fully staffed (see above). - We've now shipped about 14,000 face shields and will continue to make them as long as needed. If you're interested or know someone who is, send them our way or share the website. - If you want to get on the list to use the demo or check the status of your canoe's production, please don't hesitate to email or call us at 228-8609. Thanks again for all of your support and your patience. We hope that you are all healthy and well and we'll see you on the water. Updates! We will continue making Face Shields for all of May. We’ve gotten more efficient at making these so we’re also dropping prices $1 across the board. $4 pricing now available for super large orders. The picture is of our brother and co-founder, Kelly Foster, and the entire team at Lihu’e Airport Fire who have been doing temperature screening for in-coming passengers. We wouldn’t be here today with out Kelly, and it’s something special to make him some needed ppe during this time. We are anxious to get back to canoes, but due to city and state orders we are still not allowed to sell any canoes. Sorry! Hopefully more canoe posts soon. 🤗 #kamanucomposites #faceshield #madeinhawaii
Face Shields Update We’re happy to announce that after making 6650 face shields, we’ve been able to fulfill all of our back orders and any new order under 200 for Hawai’i will be fulfilled within 24 hours. We are also now able to start producing shields for the mainland and we will continue to produce them for as long as people need them. Thank you again for all of your support.
We completed our first 5000 face shields! We will make at minimum 3000 per week for the next two weeks. If you have estimated needs beyond that, please let us know now so we can start sourcing additional materials. On top of the 500 we donated in week one, we were able to give an additional 1000+ shields this week to hospitals, first responders, and community groups around Hawai’i. Those donations were made possible by YOU all who contributed to this project. We’ve also received generous support from Hawai’i Community Foundation and several other organizations, — so we will be getting another 1,400 free shields out next week again. Some things you just can’t see coming. One week from concept idea, to product in action. It’s a world away from the canoes we usually build, but nothing we make has felt more important. We are honored to be able to support those that are doing the hard work day in and day out and are proud to use our local manufacturing ability to fill a small hole in a temporarily broken global supply chain. It’s also been incredibly humbling to witness the amazing support of so many of you guys! With your contributions so far, over 800 more masks will be donated in the coming weeks beyond the 500 we managed to make this week. We’ve learned a lot in the past few days, we’ve rehired some of our team and are gearing up to produce 500/day or more starting Monday. Thank you all for the encouragement. Let’s do this! #covidcansuckit #kamanucomposites #faceshields
Hey all, thank you for all the positive feedback and sharing. We’re donating 500 face shields this week to health care professionals and first responders and hoping to produce 8,000 or more in April. If you want to donate to distribute face shields to front-line community groups, non-profits, or other organizations that don’t have the resources to buy them, see link in bio. We are also selling directly to organizations and orders can be made on our website. If you have any questions or represent an organization that needs mask, email us at
Thank you to everyone out there on the frontlines, working to keep Hawai’i safe and healthy. 👩🏻⚕️👮🏾♀️👩🏼🔧🧑🏿🚒👩🏽✈️👷🏻♂️#covid #hawaii #facemask #faceshield #splashmask #diy #kamanucomposites
Don’t mind the ear scratch. If anyone knows if there are local shortages of these things let me know. I can get more material Monday and probably make hundreds a day or more. *edit— it looks like lots of organizations want! We’ll do our best to make as many as possible with the material available on O’ahu, Email us at
with the organization you represent, the number needed, and your contact phone number. And we’ll call you when they’re done. Thank you!
Aloha Kamanu ‘Ohana, With the mandatory stay-at-home order issued for O’ahu, we will be closing at 4:30 pm tomorrow for the foreseeable future. After thirteen years where this shop has been open almost continuously producing locally made outrigger canoes, it is heart- breaking to close our doors and not know when we will be able to open them again. But, Mayor Caldwell is making the right decision for our island and we fully support him in this effort to contain the spread of Covid-19. We have two beautiful new “pearl edition” stock canoes which will get finished up tomorrow morning for sale, plus a few other stock canoes, and possibly some of our demo canoes. We are hoping to have enough cash flow to cover our remaining payroll for this period and necessary fixed expenses for as long as necessary. If you’re interested in a canoe and can pick it up from our shop, call us tomorrow at 228-8609. Everyone in the shop will be wearing a respirator at all times tomorrow and we ask that customers please call to schedule an appointment before coming to the shop. No customers will be able to come into the shop, we will bring the canoe out to you. Thank you to the entire team here who has worked tirelessly (with lots of social distancing) through these last few weeks of uncertainty and thank you to every customer who has shown us so much love and loyalty over the years. Stay safe, stay healthy, and stay at home whenever possible. We will get through this. And we’ll see you all on the water. Aloha, Keizo, Luke, George, Aria, Jordan, Scott, Kekoa, Forest, Tunui, Tina, Brandon, David, Honu, Nai’a, Spencer, Scotty, Alex, Conor, Daryn, and shop-cat.
@mmausio demonstrating appropriate social distancing. Please stay safe and healthy and we'll all get through this together. 📸: @alexfilardo #kamanucomposites #hawaiilife #paddling #pueo #outriggercanoe
