  • Check out this exercise written by Glen Crosby and performed by Mapex artist Al Cleveland! . . , #Repost @aclevelandiii with @make_repost ・・・ I know a lot of people don’t have access to a drum kit right now, but you can still work out even with just sticks and a pad. Here’s an exercise that (I feel) works on #timing, #StickControl, and #technique. But it’s main purpose is getting you more comfortable playing in 5, and freeing you from the traditional patterns of stickings. This can all be applied to the kit/drum. It’s pretty simple. 5/8 time sig, the sticking never changes (RLRRLL RLRR LRLLRR LRLL) but the accents (loud notes) do, up until the last few bars. I made a drum loop to play over, for musical context and because I believe that practicing with some sort of recorded music is always beneficial. Practicing with just a metronome is great, but it can sterilize your time if you don’t consciously switch it up and apply what you’re working on to some actual music. The best way to work on your #feel, is to lock in with an already existing groove. Follow along! Try it out! Slow it down if you need to!
