Happy Hump Day everyone! I don't know about you, but the mid-week slump hit me pretty hard today. - So, I just thought I'd share this fun little hipster pattern. It made me giggle 😂 - Hopefully it brightens your day!
I'm hard at work behind-the-scenes to get The Girl Brand's new brand + website up and running. I want it to be in tip-top shape before I shift my attention to an exciting new project waiting in the wings. - I'm one of those people who needs closure on open projects before I move onto new ones. That's why I only book a couple clients a season—so that my whole focus is on you. - I'm filling up my fall slots, so if you're thinking about getting your brand or site done this year, reach out to me now. I'd love to chat with you!
As summer starts creeping towards its end, my garden begins offering up more and more. Harvest is my favorite time of the year, as I get to spend my time outside in the late-summer sun, putting the final touches on this year's tan. - This past weekend was all about the garden for me. I spent countless hours in the dirt, pulling weeds, picking produce, and enjoying nature. And then I spent more countless hours inside canning pickles that will last me the next year. - I love the mixture of technology and nature that my life has become as I build an online business and balance it with the garden and nature in my backyard. - I hope you'll spend some time outside this week, not only to get away from your screens, but just to enjoy the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees. 🌱
Loving this subtle, almost-neutral moodboard I've been working on today. What do you think?
I love the behind-the-scenes work weeks interacting with my clients, helping them develop blog + content strategy plans for their business. - It allows me to put my professional list-making skills to use by creating custom post topics for their blogs. - You might remember I mentioned my list habits a couple weeks ago...and this is where they serve me well. - I just finished creating a content strategy for the next year for one of my current clients, and I have to say, it's going to be amazing. - Want to learn more about this service? DM me for details!
Weekends are reserved for work on my own brand - and today I'm spending it refining my brand with @thebrand_stylist Fiona Humberstone's book Brand Brilliance. - It's a great read that helps you dig deep into your messaging, and I'm refining The Girl Brand's look and message even further with every chapter. - I'll be rolling out my brand updates in the next couple weeks, with the intention of helping even more women business owners build a solid and unforgettable foundation for their biz. - Happy Sunday!
Blurred lines. - They happen sometimes. - You're so busy working on your business you forgot to stop working and make a healthy dinner. Or... stand up for more than 30 seconds at a time. - I'm still working to find this balance in my business, but I'm so passionate about helping entrepreneurs reach their goals that I just can't stop sometimes. - I guess until I figure it out, it's dinner at 9:30pm and whatever I can find. 👌🏽
New month means time to set new business goals and as summer winds down and fall ramps up - this month's goals are particularly essential. - For most industries, August is a little slower than most months. Use this month to get your business' processes and systems in order. I've already talked to you about the importance of @mydubsado in my small business - but there are lots of tools that make my job easier, and could do the same for you. - 1) @slackhq - keeps me in contact with all my contractors, clients, and my #CreativeClique. It lets me share proofs, mock ups and even snippets of code. 2) @google - Google Apps let's me keep track of web analytics, manage my domain, keep working documents in Google Docs that autosaves, and of course manages my emails 3) Inbox Pause for Gmail - this is my pot of gold. I use Inbox Pause to hold all my emails for certain chunks of time while I need to be finishing a project. Goodbye distraction, hello productivity. - Don't let the summer slow be an excuse to let your business fall behind - use it as an opportunity to grow your business!
I swear, I have some of the sweetest clients out there. - Cassandra was amazing to work with. Not only does she bring a fun enthusiasm to the table, but she really does take the time to listen to her clients. She is also super patient and knowledgeable. This was my first experience and while I thought I knew exactly what I wanted, it was nice to have someone explain why or why I would not need a particular design aspect and she was great at explaining that, which I really appreciated. I think one of the best things I got out of it was that I could totally be myself with Cassandra. She was very professional with her questions and her design mockups, but at the same time we were able to communicate like old friends and laugh through the process and that really helped it be less stressful. — @thelatinanextdoor 😘😘
In a little bit, I'll be sitting down for a chat with some of the most incredible women I know. All in my industry, all with something to share so we can each grow beyond what we already have. - I'm so incredibly thankful for these women who have come into my life, and I would say my biggest piece of advice for you is to find your own group to bounce ideas off of. - You'll never know how valuable they are until you find them.
My goal is to get you attracting those dream clients that make you cheer for Mondays, instead of dread them. - One thing that pushes The Girl Brand beyond expectations is my technical skillset. Not only do I provide my clients with beautiful designs, curated specifically for their ideal client, but I have the technical skills to do some serious heavy lifting on the back end. Making sure their business is attracting their dream clients. - Ready to chat about elevating your brand + web experience? Shoot me a DM so we can get you on the schedule for a late summer start date.
Earlier this week, we talked about Target Market and how you should be narrowing that down to literally one person. - Well - today, you're going to speak directly to them. - Write your next Instagram post as if you were sending that dream client of yours a text. Tell them what you love about them, then tell them how you can improve their life with your products or services. - Explain why you are THE PERFECT pair to work together. - Now, just remove the Dear Sally Sue at the start of that text, switch up your hashtags to the ones that ideal client might use in their own life and hit publish. See how your engagement starts to change, and who starts interacting with you. Get ready... because it's going to be magical ✨
Confession: I am a list fanatic. But not in like, a cute organized way, in like a I can't function until I write everything in my head down on whatever I can find kind of way. - But you know what? It works for me. - How do you keep your to-do list running?
Happy Hump Day! - I want you to make today about growth. Growth happens in very small steps, that add up to maximum results. - Reach out to a person you've been dying to work with simply to introduce yourself. Tell them what you admire about them. Leave a few comments on their Instagram feed. Make them AWARE of you and your interest in what they do. - As the week continues, keep engaging with them online. You're planting a seed after all... be prepared for what will bloom.
Today I want to talk to you guys about target market, because it's one huge common mistake developing brands are making. - Your target market should not be women 25-60 with disposable income. That's not a target, that's anyone who could possibly purchase your goods or services. Your target market should be one very specific type of person. - For example? The Girl Brand's perfect fit client is a 34 year old mom who has a floral design side business she's ready to take full time. She has a loyal clientele but is ready to attract new, high-end clients ready to spend $150+ on arrangements. - Why do we get that specific? Because suddenly it is a LOT easier to write clear, concise messaging and have your dream client align. Now of course, that ideal client isn't going to fit the profile of every dreamy customer moving forward, but they WILL relate to that person you are targeting, aspire to be them, and therefor aspire to purchase from you. - Later this week, I'll break down how to speak directly to that person, so your message is on brand, actionable, and approachable.
So I promised I would share some processes with ya'll this month... and let's just say, this month has been B U S Y. So, I'm feeling like a jerk. - Anyway, I want to talk about building email lists. Especially because the opportunity for me to gift you a free trial month of @convertkit just came up, and hellloooo, how could I not share that with you? - I totally believe the hype about your email list being the most important way to engage with your audience. And that NOT having an email list could haunt you if Instagram or Facebook were ever to disappear. Because then where would you find your clients? - But if you have a list, build it well, and treat them like gold, you'll have a following of super loyal potential customers that are going to trust you when you offer them something amazing. How can you go wrong with that? - How do I use my email list? I usually send out a round-up of my blog posts, but otherwise, I only send emails when I have something truly valuable to share. - There's no need to commit to writing a weekly newsletter, especially if you have nothing to say. HOWEVER. - Having it there, and building it up, will totally be worth it when you decide you ARE ready to send out those love notes—because then you'll feel like you're not just talking to an empty interwebs. - So, my advice is to start. Start slow, start fast—who cares—just start. It'll be sooo worth it in the end. - Now, if you're ready to test out ConvertKit, check the link in my bio ☝️. You'll go straight there, and you'll be on your way to building that awesome email list in no time. Don't wait, though...this trial is only available until the 31st! - - And oh...since we're on the subject, I'm committing to writing a blog post on easy ways to grow your email list. Look for it later this week!
Okay, I promised that I was working on work/life balance. This weekend, I'm going to focus on that... but maybe not totally 50/50. - I'm busy working on a super top secret project you'll get to hear about soon, but I'll also be spending some time in the garden. - Follow along in my stories for updates on what's growing + what's cookin. Be back Monday with official work related news. Happy Friday!
This time of summer is my FAVORITE time of summer. So much of my garden is getting ready to start harvesting. Wild sunflowers are at their wildest. The long hot days make things feel a little mysterious, like you can conquer anything. But you can tell things are starting to slow down, that they're starting to prepare for fall. - Let me ask you: Is your business ready for fall? Have you slowed down to focus on your brand + website and what they're communicating to people? IF they're communicating to people? - This is where I come in. Let's take the next two months to TRULY prepare your business for the busy fall + holiday seasons with a rebrand, and web update. - I don't want you left with the wildflowers this summer 💕
As a designer, balance is what I look for in my designs. Balance between what the dream client wants to see + what the business owner needs them to see. Balance between providing great content to lure those dream clients in + the call to action to convert them. But balance is something I’ve been working on personally for a few months now, too. Balance between working on my client’s brands (which is tricky because I feel so connected with my client’s companies) + my own brand. Balance between screen time and green time (if you haven’t been following my Stories, I’m kind of garden obsessed). What balance are you looking for in your business?
I don't really believe in #moodboardmonday being constrained to Mondays. So, here we go. Totally digging this moodboard for a fun, top-secret project I'm working on. And by top-secret, I mean not. It's for an exciting new food blogger, whose images and recipes I've seen—and let's just say, they're to die for. I'll keep you posted on the progress, bc you know—you have to eat. 😂
Graduation parties and garden time. I think that calls for summer sweet treats. Yes, ice cream. Yum.
