And the winner for Best Teacher Costume goes to... 😂🤣 SWIPE RIGHT 👉🏻 to see it in action. Bonus costume at the end because it’s too good to leave out! Did YOU dress up this year?
So this happened yesterday. And I freaking love it! The words are from the song my husband and I danced to at our wedding. I also love the permanent reminder that no matter how bleak the metaphorical winters are in our lives, the hope for rebirth and renewal is always there just beneath the frozen earth. #gemcitytattooclub #tomwaits
Feeling cute. Might get a tattoo later. IDK.
A rare quiet moment during the day with a few things that bring me peace during the teaching day. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my SLOW DOWN bracelet from @teachercarecrate! I’ve been wearing it ever since it came in the mail this month. It’s sitting on top of my beloved Toasted Flan traveler’s notebook from @speckledfawns that I use to keep track of my entire life. I use the @bulletjournal method in the @fieldnotesbrand notebooks inside. I started bullet journaling at the beginning of 2017 and have never looked back. It has changed my life! Do any of you use the bullet journal method as well? #teacherlife #bulletjournal
Truth. 🙌🏼 Who else is getting you through this year? #teacherlife #freetherapy
What do you when the kids think they know something, but as the teacher, you know it's totally wrong?! Do you correct the students right then? Or do you move on? What's the best solution to correcting their misconceptions? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Activating schema, or prior knowledge, is the foundation to helping students understand what they are reading about any topic. One of the more popular graphic organizers to record students' prior knowledge on a topic is a KWL Chart or a KWL+ Chart. I have used these charts many times to help my students record their thinking and learning about a new topic, but I personally prefer Schema Maps! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Schema Maps provide the perfect solution to the problem I frequently run into with KWL charts. This strategy encourages students to record their prior knowledge and connect it to their new learning. Schema maps require students to distinguish between information that is expanding upon something they already knew and information that is brand new learning. Schema maps also require students to identify any of their prior knowledge that is a misconception and explain why the information is incorrect. I love schema maps because they have really helped my students deepen their knowledge in different content areas and they are super easy to create. If you want to learn exactly how you can get started using schema maps in your own classroom, head to 👉🏻👉🏻 bit.ly/schemamaps. It’s a perfect option for Constitution Day on Tuesday, September 17! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #teacherlife #upperelementaryteachers #constitutionday
Anyone else struggling to stay afloat? 🙋🏼♀️ Back to school season is rough! I am struggling to put into practice all the truths I know in my head about self-care and prioritizing tasks so I can make the best use of my time. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The good news is - research shows this is completely normal! This graph was created by research from Ellen Moir back in 1990. It was made specifically including research about first-year teachers, but it’s accurate for even veteran teachers. As a veteran who is transitioning back into the classroom in a new role that I’ve never quite done this way before, in many ways I feel like a first-year teacher all over again. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The bad news is that if I continue in this pattern, I’m heading straight into the pit of “disillusionment” about teaching. Knowing that, I really need to put structures in place to help myself not dip so low. This weekend, that means setting aside all teaching-related tasks and getting a little caught up on life. Like digging myself out of the huge piles of laundry I’ve accumulated since school started. 😬 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ What are you doing to set yourself up for success this weekend? ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ #iteach #teacherlife #weareteachers
I am absolutely in 💕LOVE 💕 with how my door design from @casdahl turned out!!! Because I am an inclusion co-teacher, I am not always in my classroom, so the door is frequently closed and shut. This is why I put the message on the outside! As kids are walking past, I hope they will see it and know they are loved. #backtoschool #thankyouteacherspayteachers
F I R S T • D A Y // Stayed too late prepping last night (so exhausted), but these were a perfect mid-day pick-me-up! Aren’t they absolutely gorgeous?! Thankful for an incredibly sweet teacher friend who took time out of her own busy back to school schedule to wish me the best on this new adventure.
