Came home to a sweet surprise tonight! Adorable canvas pouch and a sloth pin from @shoptigertree. My husband knows me so well. 😍😍😍
I am reminded tonight that COLOR was designed by God to be beautiful and celebrated!
Just stick to the curriculum, some teachers may say in an effort to avoid hard conversations. As educators, this is unacceptable. We have a responsibility to teach our children that racism and bigotry have no place in our world, regardless of how uncomfortable that might make us feel. . . Jamila Pitts challenges us — We may be uncomfortable talking about race, but we can no longer afford to be silent. We have chosen a profession that—like parenting—requires us to put our comforts second to those of children. . . We face some challenging conversations with our students in these weeks and months ahead, conversations about things that are dark and frightening, conversations that may bring out words from children that are just echoes of what they hear at home. Lean into the discomfort. Look evil in the eyes and name it. . Still not convinced it's your place to speak out about racism in the classroom? Think about it this way. ALL of the white supremacists at the rally yesterday used to be someone's students. We MUST lead these conversations so our students grow up to embrace the diversity that makes our country so unique. . You can select the grade-band, topic, social justice domain, and subject to find the right fit for your classroom! #linkinprofile . Photo credit: Mo Willems Twitter account
