Kind. Brave. Selfless. These are words used to describe the beautiful Amanda Bebak Lawler, our newest Wunder's Warrior. Diagnosed with Stage III Colon Cancer in January 2015, Amanda had a partial colectomy followed by 12 chemotherapy treatments and was declared NED. Busy enjoying life and planning a move to China with her beloved husband, Scott, she went in for a routine check in April 2017 and expressed concerns about insurance coverage in China. Her vigilant oncologist ordered a CT scan which revealed metastatic disease to her liver and lungs. Instead of saying why me, Mandy and her husband Scott sought out second opinions and clinical trials which eventually led them to Dr. Heinz Joseph Lenz of USC Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center. On May 21, 2018, Mandy will turn 50. It was her desire to have a Bollywood themed party celebrating her NED status. Instead, in her amazing selfless style, she and her fabulous support system will hold a Bowel-lywood Bash and Fundraiser supporting the WunderGlo Foundation. On that night she will celebrate Life, Healing and The Quest To Cure Colon Cancer. Mandy. The Gloria Borges WunderGlo Foundation is honored and humbled that you have chosen to partner with us to find the Cure. ज़िन्दगी प्यार देने और प्यार लेने का नाम है ... और कुछ नहीं Life is the name of giving love and loving ... nothing else Join us in celebrating beautiful Amanda Bebak Lawler's 50th Birthday: https://www.classy.org/campaign/mandys-fight-for-a-cure/c181184 #AmandaLawler #50 #Bollywood #LoveLife #WunderGlo #MandysFight #howfirmafoundation
For this #MedicalMonday - WunderGlo is excited to share the High Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HiFu) Treatment for localized Spot Therapy treatment for Bone Metastasis: Accelerating the Development and Adoption of Focused Ultrasound Bone is the third most common tissue affected by metastatic disease. Breast, lung, and prostate cancer metastasize to bone most frequently. Common symptoms of bone metastases include pain, fractures, spinal cord compression, and high blood calcium levels. Typically speaking, Radiation to a specific area is “One & Done” - and targeted treatment cannot be repeated to that same area twice. - However, HiFu CAN treat spots that have previously received radiation and this treatment CAN be repeated as needed. High Intensity Focused Ultrasound, a completely non-invasive, radiation-free method to treat bone metastases, is approved in the United States, Europe, and other regions of the world. There are several potential benefits of focused ultrasound for the treatment of painful bone metastases: 1. It is a non-invasive, low-morbidity treatment that allows for a quick return to normal life (usually the next day). 2. It offers rapid and durable resolution of bone metastasis pain. 3. A single therapy session is usually enough for significant symptomatic improvement. 4. It has a reported low rate of complications. 5. Treatment does not use ionizing radiation, which means: (a) It is possible to repeat focused ultrasound treatments to bone. (b) It is possible to treat patients who have reached their maximum dose of radiation for the targeted bone metastasis. (c) It is possible to combine radiotherapy for the primary tumor with focused ultrasound to the bone metastasis without creating local overdose. (d) It has a theoretical advantage of reducing structural damage to bone and allowing faster bone healing after treatment. The HiFu Treatment is an incredible option to shrink tumors and help relieve pain issues related to Bone Mets. The Gloria Borges WunderGlo Foundation supports research that will inevitably lead to better treatments with higher efficacy, less side effects, and greater quality of life. https://www

Leading Australian researchers back world's First campaign for activity to be part of any treatment. The Clinical Oncology Society of Australia has launched its position statement on the role of exercise alongside surgery, chemotherapy or radiation in cancer care. Professor Prue Cormie, chair of the Cosa Exercise and Cancer Care Group said: “Based on what the science tells us, Exercise is the best medicine people with cancer can take, in addition to their cancer treatments, to reverse treatment related side-effects, slow the progression of their cancer, increase quality of life and improve the chances of survival. That’s because we know NOW that people who exercise regularly experience fewer and less severe treatment side-effects; cancer-related fatigue, mental distress, quality of life.” Endorsed by a group of 25 influential health and cancer organizations, including Cancer Council Australia, it is the first researcher-led push anywhere in the world for exercise to be an essential component of treatment. “If we could turn the benefits of exercise into a pill, it would be demanded by patients, prescribed by every cancer specialist and subsidized by government – it would be seen as a major breakthrough in cancer treatment. - Professor Prue Cormie. The Gloria Borges WunderGlo Foundation has always encouraged regular physical activity and a well balanced & healthy diet, whenever possible. In leading-by-example, WunderGlo has always provided nutritious, plant-based food at every one of our Foundation events. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/health/exercise-cancer-activity-recovery-physiotherapist-chemotherapy-prescription-a8339876.html #Exercise #Nutrition #COSA #WunderGlo
On this #MedicalMonday - WunderGlo shares information from UCLA about CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery (SBRT). This link has video, FAQs, and provides a phone number and email form for you to ask more questions. Whether recently diagnosed or seeking another form of treatment, SBRT presents an option to become aware of that you can ask your oncologist about. With colorectal cancer metastasis, the lungs are frequently involved. SBRT has been used for many localized tumors (up to 6-7 cm), or a few tumors (up to 3-5 usually) throughout the whole body. Candidates for SBRT are patients with small lung tumors — five centimeters or less — who are not candidates for surgery due to the risk of functional deficit. Patients whose tumors are located centrally or close to airways or the heart have sometimes been considered poor candidates for SBRT due to higher complication rates. Early results suggest that SBRT is as effective as, and likely more effective than standard radiation therapy - especially for early stage lung cancer, gastrointestinal tumors such as pancreatic tumors, and liver tumors. In lung tumors, there is convincing evidence from United States, Japan and Europe that SBRT may be as effective as surgery for early stage lung cancer. It is certainly the treatment modality of choice for patients who cannot undergo surgery to remove their tumors from either a medical or technical perspective. The list of tumors that have been treated successfully at UCLA and throughout the world with SBRT continues to grow. They include: primary lung cancer, and tumors that have spread to the lung, pancreatic tumors, bile duct tumors, primary and metastatic liver tumors, kidney tumors, prostate cancer, pelvic tumors, sarcomas, metastatic tumors throughout the body (otherwise known as oligometastases), and more. #MedicalMonday #SBRT #UCLA #WunderGlo #Awareness http://radonc.ucla.edu/faqs-sbrt
