Today’s #weddingswithrebekah features advice from REP bride Annie! She and Dan were married in Durham, NC this past September, as seen on @southernbrideandgroom. Take a look in the comments for Dan and Annie’s proposal story, and swipe right for an adorable picture from the day they got engaged!! Here is what Annie had to say about Episode 2. Starting an Inspiration Board: “Only look at Pinterest if you have something specific in mind e.g. lantern centerpieces or calla lily bouquets. Otherwise it's too easy to get sucked into all the possibilities and making everything perfect.” This is SUCH great advice. Ahhhh, Pinterest! You may have even already started a wedding inspiration board... even if you're not engaged yet! Hey, no judgies over here! 😉 In any case, this is certainly a convenient way to start crafting a vision for your wedding day, BUT proceed with caution! Pinterest can be a blessing and a curse. It's easy to find incredible ideas you absolutely love, you just need to be sure to do some research and ask YOUR vendors for advice on what would realistically work within your budget. Many things on Pinterest can be misleading, and on top of everything else it can be overwhelming with just how much inspiration is out there... spoiler alert: it’s endless. Take things a little at a time, and limit your pins to your absolute favorites. If you only pin things you LOVE and occasionally go through and delete pins that don't fit – your unique wedding aesthetic will slowly but surely emerge. Always remember to keep the most important thing at the forefront of your planning: marrying your best friend. It truly doesn’t matter what is most popular or what anyone else thinks. If you and your sweetie have unique things you both love, consider incorporating those into your wedding! For instance, Kevin is addicted to Krispy Kreme donuts, so we had those instead of cake for our brunch wedding. Make your wedding a reflection of the two of you! If you are engaged or married, have you enjoyed using Pinterest for your own planning? What tips do YOU have? Be sure to tag your engaged friends below so they can benefit from this almost-sorta-weekly series.
#weddingswithrebekah 1. Setting a Budget: This is the first step towards planning your wedding! According to @theknot’s 2017 report, the average US wedding costs $35,329. This of course varies depending on what part of the country you’re in and personal circumstances. The first thing you want to do is figure out just how much you want to spend – this could be a combination of money you’ve already saved, what you can feasibly save in the coming months, and any financial support you’ll receive from your families. Whatever your situation: please, please, please do not go into debt for the sake of your wedding! Weddings are about beginning your marriage, NOT impressing guests. Keep this at the heart of your planning, and build your marriage on a foundation much stronger than financial instability. After deciding on your total budget, choose your TOP TWO PRIORITIES! Maybe there’s a particular venue you love, a DJ who rocks the house, or a photographer you’ve been following for years? ;) After you’ve decided on your “splurges”, consider the other expenses you’ll come across. When I was planning my own wedding, I felt percentages were a great starting point! Here is an example: Venues, Catering, Drinks: 40-50% Planner/Coordinator: 2-10% Attire, H&MU: 8-10% Flowers, Decor: 8-10% Dessert: 1-2% Entertainment/Music: 8-10% Photography/Videography: 8-10% each Stationery: 2-3% Miscellaneous (transportation, rings, gifts, tips, unexpected fees): 10-15% And @leishalangstonart made a great point - let’s not forget about your honeymoon too!! This is just the tip of the iceberg. There are lots and lots of blog posts out there with advice on nailing down your wedding budget. If you are married or engaged, what have you found to be the best piece of advice for setting a budget for your wedding? What were your biggest splurges?
Grace. Elegance. Poise.
